Job Purpose To ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient functioning of all medical and ophthalmic equipment in the hospital through preventive maintenance, timely repairs, calibration, documentation, and coordination with authorized service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Medical Equipment Management
- Manage and maintain all biomedical and ophthalmic equipment in the hospital.
- Ensure proper functioning of equipment used in OPD, Operation Theatre, diagnostics, wards, and other clinical areas.
- Maintain an updated inventory of all medical equipment, including equipment details, location, warranty, AMC/CMC, and service history.
- Ophthalmic Equipment Maintenance
- Handle maintenance and troubleshooting of ophthalmic equipment such as:
- Slit Lamps
- Auto Refractometers
- Keratometers
- Optical Biometers / A-Scan
- OCT
- Visual Field Analyzer (HFA)
- Fundus Cameras
- OCT Angiography
- B-Scan
- Corneal Topography / Tomography
- LASIK / TransPRK / SMILE equipment
- YAG Laser
- Retinal Laser
- Operating Microscopes
- Phacoemulsification machines
- Vitrectomy machines
- Cryotherapy equipment
- Other ophthalmic diagnostic and surgical equipment
- Preventive Maintenance
- Prepare and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all biomedical equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections and functional checks.
- Ensure equipment is serviced and calibrated within the prescribed schedule.
- Follow up with vendors and authorized service engineers for scheduled maintenance.
- Breakdown Maintenance
- Attend equipment breakdowns promptly and assess the cause of malfunction.
- Carry out minor repairs where technically appropriate.
- Coordinate with authorized service providers for major repairs.
- Minimize equipment downtime and ensure critical equipment is restored at the earliest.
- Calibration &
- Safety
- Maintain calibration schedules and certificates for applicable equipment.
- Ensure equipment is safe for use and meets applicable hospital requirements.
- Check electrical safety and basic operational safety of biomedical equipment.
- Immediately report any unsafe or defective equipment to the concerned authority and ensure it is appropriately isolated until repaired.
- Operation Theatre Equipment
- Monitor the functioning and maintenance of OT equipment.
- Coordinate with OT staff regarding equipment-related issues.
- Ensure surgical equipment is available and functional before scheduled procedures.
- Support installation, testing, and commissioning of new OT and ophthalmic equipment.
- Vendor &
- AMC/CMC Coordination
- Coordinate with equipment suppliers, manufacturers, and authorized service agencies.
- Obtain quotations for repairs, spare parts, AMC/CMC, calibration, and new equipment.
- Monitor AMC/CMC agreements and service visits.
- Verify service reports and ensure pending issues are followed up until closure.

- Maintain equipment-related documentation required for NABH and other regulatory requirements.
- New Equipment Installation
- Assist management in technical evaluation of new equipment.
- Coordinate installation, commissioning, demonstration, and user training.
- Ensure required electrical, networking, environmental, and space requirements are available before installation.
- Verify equipment performance before handing over to the concerned department.
- Staff Training
- Coordinate basic equipment training for doctors, nurses, technicians, and other users.
- Ensure users follow manufacturer instructions and hospital protocols.
- Provide guidance regarding proper handling and reporting of equipment problems.
- Inventory &
- Spare Parts
- Maintain records of essential spare parts and consumables related to biomedical equipment.
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate procurement when required.
- Ensure critical spare parts are available to minimize downtime.
- Compliance &
- Quality
- Support the hospital in maintaining biomedical equipment standards required for NABH and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Participate in internal audits and equipment-related quality improvement activities.
- Ensure proper labeling of equipment, including calibration status, service status, and identification numbers where applicable.
- Emergency Support
- Provide immediate technical support during critical equipment failures, especially during surgeries and emergency procedures.
- Coordinate emergency service support with vendors when required.
Qualification
- B.Tech / B.E. in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Diploma in Biomedical Engineering may be considered based on experience and hospital requirements.
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in biomedical equipment maintenance, preferably in a hospital.
- Experience in an eye hospital / ophthalmic equipment will be an added advantage.

Pay: ₹11,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
