Job Description – Purchase Manager
Position: Purchase Manager / Procurement Manager
Location: Thane, Maharashtra
Industry: Diagnostic Laboratory / Healthcare
Experience: 5–10 Years
Salary: ₹60,000–₹70,000 per month
Employment Type: Full-Time
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Purchase Manager to manage procurement and purchasing activities for a diagnostic laboratory. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement of laboratory reagents, consumables, equipment, medical supplies, and other operational requirements.
The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in diagnostic laboratory procurement / healthcare procurement and a good understanding of laboratory products, suppliers, pricing, inventory, and purchase processes.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcurement & Purchasing
- Manage end-to-end purchasing activities for the diagnostic laboratory.
- Procure laboratory reagents, consumables, chemicals, kits, tubes, PPE, medical supplies, and other laboratory requirements.
- Coordinate procurement of laboratory equipment, instruments, spare parts, and accessories as required.
- Identify reliable suppliers and develop a strong vendor network.
- Obtain quotations, compare prices, negotiate commercial terms, and finalize purchases.
- Ensure timely availability of materials based on laboratory requirements.
- Raise and process purchase orders as per company procedures.
- Follow up with vendors regarding order confirmation, delivery schedules, and pending supplies.
Vendor Management
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and recent suppliers.
- Evaluate vendors based on price, quality, delivery timelines, service, and reliability.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, credit periods, and other commercial conditions.
- Resolve vendor-related issues concerning quality, shortages, damages, delays, or incorrect supplies.
- Maintain an updated supplier database and product pricing information.
Inventory & Cost Control
- Coordinate with laboratory and operations teams to understand material requirements.
- Monitor stock levels of critical laboratory consumables and reagents.
- Ensure timely replenishment and avoid stock-outs.
- Monitor consumption patterns and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Control purchase costs while maintaining required quality standards.
- Coordinate with stores/inventory teams for receipt and verification of materials.
- Monitor expiry dates and minimize wastage of laboratory materials.
Coordination with Laboratory & Operations
- Work closely with Lab Managers, Operations Managers, Pathologists, Store/Inventory teams, Finance, and Management.
- Understand technical requirements before purchasing laboratory products.
- Coordinate with laboratory teams for product specifications and approved brands.
- Ensure purchased materials meet the required quality and specifications.
- Support multiple laboratory locations/centres if required.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain purchase orders, quotations, invoices, vendor records, and procurement documentation.
- Prepare regular purchase and procurement reports for management.
- Track purchase costs and vendor performance.
- Maintain records of negotiated rates and contracts.
- Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies and approval processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Commerce, Life Sciences, or a related field.
- MBA / PG qualification in Supply Chain or Procurement will be an added advantage.
Required Experience
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in procurement/purchase, preferably within:
- Diagnostic Laboratories
- Hospitals
- Healthcare
- Medical Diagnostics
- Pathology / Laboratory Services
- Medical Equipment / Medical Supplies
- Candidates with strong experience specifically in laboratory purchase and procurement will be preferred.

- Ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers.
- Good understanding of laboratory consumption and procurement cycles.
- Strong follow-up and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple procurement requirements.
Compensation
₹60,000 – ₹70,000 per month
Salary will depend on relevant experience, current CTC, and overall suitability.
Location: Thane, Maharashtra
Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
