We are looking for a Purchase Developer – Steel Industry who will be responsible for developing new suppliers, identifying competitive procurement sources, collecting market rates, researching steel manufacturers and stockists, and supporting the company in building a strong and reliable supplier network.

The ideal candidate should have good communication skills, strong vendor-follow-up abilities, basic knowledge of steel products, good market research skills, and a willingness to develop new supplier relationships.

Job Summary

The Purchase Developer – Steel Industry will focus on developing and expanding the company's supplier network for steel and related products.

The candidate will identify new manufacturers, stockists, traders, and suppliers; collect quotations and market rates; compare prices and specifications; verify material availability; negotiate where required; and maintain an updated supplier database.

The role will involve extensive supplier research, cold calling, WhatsApp/email communication, quotation collection, rate comparison, market intelligence, and vendor development.

Experience in the steel industry, construction materials, manufacturing, engineering products, industrial products, or B2B procurement will be an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

1. New Supplier & Vendor Development

- Identify and develop new suppliers, manufacturers, stockists, traders, and distributors across India.
- Search for suppliers based on product, size, grade, quantity, location, price, brand, and delivery requirements.
- Contact potential suppliers through phone calls, WhatsApp, email, B2B portals, websites, directories, and other sources.
- Introduce the company and establish professional relationships with current vendors.
- Collect supplier profiles, contact details, product ranges, and commercial information.
- Build and maintain a strong database of verified steel suppliers.
- Regularly follow up with newly identified suppliers to develop long-term business relationships.
- Identify alternative suppliers for regularly purchased and difficult-to-source materials.

2. Steel Market Research & Sourcing

- Research the Indian steel market to identify manufacturers, mills, stockists, traders, and distributors.
- Identify sources for products such as:
- TMT Bars
- MS Angles
- MS Channels
- MS Beams
- ISMB / ISMC / ISHB
- HEB / IPB / NPB
- MS Flats
- MS Plates
- Chequered Plates




- MS Round Bars
- Pipes
- GI Pipes
- Structural Steel
- Other industrial steel products
- Collect current supplier rates and market quotations.
- Track changes in steel prices, availability, brands, grades, and supply conditions.
- Identify competitive procurement opportunities from different locations and suppliers.
- Research new manufacturers and stockists based on specific product requirements.

3. Rate Collection & Quotation Development

- Contact multiple suppliers for competitive quotations.
- Collect rates based on product size, grade, quantity, brand, and delivery location.
- Compare supplier quotations and identify commercially suitable sources.
- Verify whether quoted rates include GST, freight, loading, and other applicable charges.
- Maintain supplier-wise rate records for future purchasing.
- Regularly update market rates and supplier quotations.
- Escalate significant price differences or market changes to the Purchase/Senior Management Team.

4. Supplier Verification & Evaluation

- Collect basic company information from new suppliers.
- Verify supplier product range, location, stock availability, and supply capability.
- Check manufacturer/brand details wherever applicable.
- Evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, availability, delivery capability, response time, and reliability.
- Maintain records of verified and potential suppliers.
- Identify reliable suppliers for recurring procurement requirements.

5. Purchase Development

- Study ongoing purchase requirements and identify potential suppliers.
- Develop new procurement sources for regular and non-regular materials.
- Assist the Purchase Team in obtaining better sourcing options.
- Search for alternative brands, manufacturers, stockists, or locations when required.
- Support the team in reducing sourcing time and improving supplier availability.
- Develop supplier relationships that can support bulk and repeat purchases.

6. Order & Supplier Follow-up

- Follow up with suppliers after quotation and order discussions.
- Confirm stock availability and expected dispatch timelines.
- Coordinate with suppliers regarding loading, dispatch, vehicle placement, and delivery status when required.
- Follow up on pending quotations and purchase requirements.
- Communicate supplier delays, price changes, stock shortages, or other issues to the concerned team.
- Maintain regular communication with active suppliers.
- Continuously research new steel suppliers across different regions of India.
- Identify supplier clusters and major steel markets.
- Develop databases of manufacturers, stockists, traders, and distributors.
- Track supplier contact persons, product categories, locations, and commercial terms.
- Regularly update outdated supplier information.




- Provide market information to the Purchase and Management Team.

- Willingness to learn about steel markets, products, manufacturers, and B2B procurement.

Qualifications & Eligibility

- Graduate in Business Administration, Commerce, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience in Purchase, Procurement, Vendor Development, Sourcing, Business Development, or a similar role preferred.
- Experience in steel, construction materials, manufacturing, engineering, industrial products, or B2B procurement will be an added advantage.
- Candidates with experience in supplier development, market research, cold calling, quotation collection, and rate comparison will be preferred.
- Candidates with strong Excel and communication skills are encouraged to apply.
