ECHO TECHNICIAN – JOB DESCRIPTION

Designation: Echo Technician
Department: Cardiology / Diagnostic Services
Reporting To: Consultant Cardiologist / HOD – Cardiology
Location: DSK Hospital

Job Summary

The Echo Technician is responsible for performing echocardiography procedures safely and accurately, assisting the Cardiologist during cardiac investigations, maintaining proper patient records, and ensuring the echocardiography equipment is used and maintained according to hospital standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform 2D Echocardiography, M-Mode and Doppler studies as per the Cardiologist's instructions.
- Prepare patients for echocardiography and explain the procedure clearly.
- Position patients appropriately and ensure their comfort and privacy.
- Obtain technically accurate and high-quality echo images for interpretation by the Cardiologist.
- Assist the Cardiologist during specialized echo procedures, when required.
- Maintain accurate patient records, reports, worksheets and investigation details.
- Ensure proper identification of patients before every procedure.
- Follow hospital protocols for infection prevention and patient safety.
- Check the functioning of the Echo machine and related accessories before use.
- Report equipment malfunction or technical issues promptly to the concerned department.




- Maintain cleanliness and proper handling of the echocardiography equipment.
- Ensure proper storage and backup of images and patient investigation data.
- Coordinate with the Cardiology, Reception, Nursing and Medical Records departments for smooth patient flow.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and medical records.
- Follow hospital policies, NABH standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training programs and quality-improvement activities.
- Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the Cardiologist / HOD / Hospital Management.

Required Qualifications

- Diploma / Degree in Medical Imaging Technology, Cardiac Care Technology, Cardiovascular Technology or an equivalent recognized qualification.
- Relevant training or certification in Echocardiography / Cardiac Sonography.
- Practical knowledge of cardiac imaging techniques.

Experience

- Freshers: May be considered based on qualification and practical training.
- Experienced candidates: Prior experience in echocardiography or a cardiology department is preferred.
