ABOUT US
Shah Quantum Fund (Shah Equity) is an AI-native trading firm and venture studio trading US equity markets, headquartered in HITEC City, Hyderabad. Alongside the trading business, the group operates a venture studio and a non-profit division. We combine quantitative research, disciplined risk management and contemporary technology to build a high-performance, transparent organisation.
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a qualified Chartered Accountant to own the finance and accounting function across our trading entity, venture studio and non-profit arm. The role sits at the intersection of Indian statutory compliance and US market operations: you will manage multi-currency books (USD / INR and others), reconcile broker and bank positions, support fund-level reporting, and keep the group fully compliant with Indian regulations (Companies Act, Income Tax, GST, FEMA/RBI) while coordinating with US counterparts on brokerage, tax and regulatory requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Fund & Trading Accounting
- Maintain books of accounts for the proprietary trading entity, including daily/monthly trade capture, realised and unrealised P&L;, and mark-to-market of US equity positions.
- Reconcile trading accounts with US brokers and clearing firms – positions, cash balances, commissions, fees, margin interest and corporate actions.
- Prepare monthly fund reporting: NAV calculations, capital accounts, trader-level and desk-level P&L;, expense allocation and performance statements.
- Account for trader payouts, profit-sharing structures, capital allocations and drawdown-related adjustments.
- Work with the trading and risk teams to ensure accounting data matches internal PnL trackers and dashboards.
2. Multi-Currency Accounting & Treasury
- Manage multi-currency ledgers (USD, INR and other currencies) – transaction booking, revaluation, realised/unrealised forex gains and losses.
- Handle inward and outward foreign remittances, fund transfers to/from US brokerage accounts, and related banking documentation.
- Monitor FX exposure, conversion rates and cash positions across currencies; prepare cash flow and liquidity forecasts.
- Ensure correct application of Ind AS 21 / AS 11 (Effects of Changes in Foreign Exchange Rates) and consolidation of foreign-currency balances.
3. Regulatory, Tax & Statutory Compliance (India)
- Ensure compliance with FEMA, RBI regulations (LRS / ODI / FDI as applicable), Form 15CA/15CB, FIRC/FIRA and other cross-border documentation.
- Manage direct tax – advance tax, TDS/TCS,
income tax returns, tax computation on trading income, and transfer pricing where applicable.
- Manage GST compliance, including export of services, LUT filings and input tax credit reconciliation.
- Handle ROC/MCA filings and Companies Act compliance; coordinate statutory and internal audits.
4. US Market & International Compliance
- Coordinate with US brokers, prime brokers, fund administrators and US CPAs on account statements, tax forms (W-8BEN/W-8BEN-E, 1099/1042-S) and year-end reporting.
- Understand and apply DTAA (India–US) provisions, foreign tax credits and withholding tax treatment on US-sourced income.
- Support the compliance team on SEC/FINRA-related documentation, KYC/AML records and broker onboarding requirements from a finance standpoint.
5. NGO / Non-Profit Division Accounting
- Maintain separate books for the non-profit division, including fund accounting for restricted and unrestricted grants.
- Ensure compliance with Section 12A / 80G registrations, FCRA (where foreign contributions are involved), CSR (Section 135) reporting and donor/grant utilisation certificates.
- Prepare budgets, grant utilisation reports and audit-ready financial statements for donors and trustees.
6. Financial Reporting, Controls & Strategy
- Prepare monthly MIS, quarterly and annual financial statements for all group entities, including consolidation.
- Design and strengthen internal controls, approval workflows and segregation of duties across trading, venture and non-profit operations.
- Prepare annual budgets, cost analyses and variance reports; advise management on cost optimisation and capital efficiency.
- Evaluate and implement automation and AI tools for reconciliations, reporting and compliance tracking.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (ICAI) – mandatory.
- 3–7 years post-qualification experience in one or more of: hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, AMCs/PMS, broking houses, investment banks, fund administrators, or Big 4 / mid-tier firms with financial services clients.
- Proven hands-on experience with multi-currency accounting, forex revaluation and cross-border remittances.
- Strong working knowledge of FEMA, RBI regulations, Income Tax Act, GST, Companies Act and Ind AS.
- Exposure to US equity markets – understanding of trade lifecycle, broker statements, settlement (T+1), margin and corporate actions.
PREFERRED / GOOD TO HAVE
- Experience with hedge fund or private fund accounting – NAV, capital accounts, high-water mark and performance fee calculations.
- Experience handling NGO / Trust / Section 8 company accounts, FCRA and CSR compliance.
- Familiarity with US tax concepts (1099, 1042-S, W-8 forms, FATCA/CRS) and India–US DTAA.
- Additional qualifications such as CFA (any level), CPA (US), ACCA, FRM or DipIFR.
- Proficiency with Tally Prime, Zoho Books, QuickBooks, NetSuite or SAP; advanced Excel (pivot tables, Power Query, macros).
- Comfort with AI and automation tools (ChatGPT/Claude, Python or similar) to streamline reconciliations and reporting.
KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Strong analytical ability and attention to detail in high-volume transaction environments.
- High integrity and confidentiality in handling proprietary financial data.
- Clear written and verbal communication in English for coordination with US counterparts.
- Ownership mindset – able to work independently in a fast-paced, lean team.
- Willingness to work flexible hours to overlap with US market timings when required.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive compensation aligned with experience and industry benchmarks.
- Direct exposure to US capital markets, fund operations and cross-border finance.
- Opportunity to build and lead the finance function of a fast-growing, AI-first firm.
- Work across trading, venture building and social impact initiatives.
- Modern office in HITEC City, Hyderabad, with a collaborative and performance-driven culture.
