1. Job Purpose

To plan, coordinate, and control day-to-day production activities in the CNC Machine Shop to achieve production targets while ensuring compliance with quality, delivery, productivity, safety, and cost requirements.

The position is responsible for effective utilization of CNC machines, manpower, tooling, fixtures, and other resources, with continuous focus on productivity improvement, rejection reduction, and on-time delivery.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Production Planning & Execution

- Plan and execute daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules in coordination with Production Planning, Quality, Stores, and Engineering.
- Ensure achievement of production targets as per customer delivery requirements.
- Monitor production against planned quantities and take corrective action for deviations.
- Ensure optimum utilization of CNC machines and available production resources.
- Coordinate production priorities based on customer requirements and delivery schedules.
- Monitor WIP and ensure smooth movement of components between operations.

B. CNC Machine Shop Management

- Supervise CNC Turning, CNC Milling, CNC Grinding, CNC Drilling, and other machining operations as applicable.
- Ensure machines are operated according to approved process sheets, work instructions, drawings, and process parameters.
- Monitor machine loading and optimize machine utilization.
- Ensure proper machine setup, tool setting, offsets, and changeover activities.
- Coordinate new component development, prove-out, and process stabilization.
- Ensure proper identification and traceability of components at each stage.

C. CNC Programming & Process Control

- Review CNC programmes and coordinate with CNC Programmers / Process Engineers for corrections and improvements.
- Ensure appropriate cutting parameters, tool selection, tool offsets, and machining strategies.
- Support development and optimization of CNC machining cycles.
- Reduce cycle time through process optimization without compromising quality.
- Ensure revision control of CNC programmes and prevent unauthorized changes.
- Maintain proper backup and control of CNC programmes.

D. Tooling & Fixture Management

- Plan and monitor availability of cutting tools, inserts, holders, fixtures, gauges, and other machining consumables.
- Monitor tool life and implement effective tool management.
- Analyze tool failures, premature wear, and abnormal consumption.
- Coordinate with Tool Room / Engineering for fixture and tooling improvements.
- Maintain minimum stock levels for critical tools and consumables.

E. Quality Control

- Ensure production is carried out as per approved drawings, process sheets, Control Plans, and inspection requirements.
- Coordinate with Quality for first-piece, in-process, and final inspection.
- Monitor machining-related rejection, rework, and process deviations.
- Analyze recurring defects and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure effective control of non-conforming components.
- Support implementation of SPC, Process Capability, Poka-Yoke, and other quality improvement methods.

F. Productivity Improvement

- Monitor machine productivity, cycle time, setup time, downtime,



and overall equipment utilization.
- Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective measures.
- Reduce machine idle time, setup time, tool-change time, and waiting time.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Conduct productivity improvement studies and monitor results.
- Improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

G. Maintenance Coordination

- Coordinate with Maintenance for preventive and breakdown maintenance of CNC machines.
- Report machine abnormalities and breakdowns immediately.
- Monitor machine downtime and ensure timely restoration.
- Support preventive maintenance schedules and maintain production-related maintenance records.
- Identify recurring machine problems and recommend permanent corrective actions.

H. Manpower Management

- Allocate operators, setters, technicians, and other production personnel based on workload and skill requirements.
- Monitor manpower productivity and attendance.
- Identify skill gaps and coordinate training programmes.
- Ensure operators are trained in machine operation, process parameters, quality requirements, and safety.
- Develop multi-skilled manpower wherever feasible.

I. Safety & 5S

- Ensure strict adherence to safety procedures in the CNC Machine Shop.
- Ensure proper use of PPE by employees.
- Maintain workplace safety, cleanliness, and 5S standards.
- Identify unsafe conditions and initiate corrective actions.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of cutting tools, oils, coolants, and machining-related materials.

J. Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain daily production reports and machine-wise production records.
- Monitor and report production achievement, rejection, rework, downtime, and productivity.
- Prepare shift-wise / daily / weekly production reports.
- Maintain records of machine utilization, tool consumption, and production performance.
- Ensure proper documentation of process changes and deviations.
- Provide regular production status reports to management.

K. Cross-Functional Coordination

4. Authority

The Assistant Manager – Production shall have authority to:





- Allocate manpower and production resources within the approved plan.
- Prioritize production activities in coordination with the Production Manager.
- Hold production when significant process or safety issues are identified.
- Request maintenance intervention for machine abnormalities.
- Recommend tooling, fixture, and process improvements.
- Escalate quality, production, safety, and delivery issues to the concerned manager.
- Recommend training and skill development requirements for production personnel.

5. Qualification

Essential:

- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent.

Preferred:

- Additional qualification in CNC programming, manufacturing technology, Lean Manufacturing, or Production Management.

6. Experience

- 5–8 years of relevant experience in CNC machining / production.
- Experience in precision engineering, automotive components, diesel engine components, railway components, or heavy engineering is preferred.
- Hands-on experience in CNC Turning / Milling and production supervision is essential.
- Experience in handling a CNC machine shop with multiple machines and shifts will be an advantage.

10. Overall Responsibility

The Assistant Manager – Production is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and timely production in the CNC Machine Shop, with emphasis on achieving production targets, maintaining required quality standards, optimizing machine and manpower utilization, controlling machining costs, reducing rejection and downtime, and continuously improving productivity and process capability.

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
