Position: Resident Medical Officer (RMO)

Reports To: Medical Director / Clinical Director / Consultant
About the Role
We are looking for a responsible, clinically competent and patient-focused Resident Medical Officer (RMO) to provide day-to-day medical care and clinical monitoring for patients admitted to our Neuro Rehabilitation Centre.
The RMO will be responsible for continuous patient assessment, monitoring of clinical conditions, medication management, early identification of complications, emergency response and coordination with consultants and the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team.
The position requires strong clinical judgement, effective communication and the ability to respond promptly to changes in a patient's condition.
Key Responsibilities1. Patient Assessment & Clinical Management
- Conduct initial and regular medical assessment of admitted patients.
- Monitor vital signs and overall clinical condition.
- Review patient history, investigation reports and treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Monitor neurological and functional status as appropriate.
- Identify deterioration in the patient's condition at an early stage.
- Coordinate with consultants regarding changes in patient condition.
- Ensure continuity of medical care during the patient's rehabilitation journey.
2. Management of Neurological Rehabilitation Patients
Provide medical supervision for patients undergoing rehabilitation following conditions such as:
- Stroke / CVA
- Hemiplegia and paralysis
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Spinal Cord Injury
- Parkinson's Disease
- Cerebral Palsy
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Neuromuscular disorders
- Post-neurosurgical rehabilitation
- Other neurological and functional disabilities
The RMO should understand the common medical complications associated with these conditions and coordinate appropriate specialist intervention when required.
3. Medication Management
- Review and administer medications as per the treating consultant's orders and applicable protocols.
- Monitor therapeutic response and possible adverse effects.
- Maintain medication charts and treatment records.
- Coordinate medication changes with consultants.
- Ensure appropriate documentation of medication administration.
- Monitor patients for drug-related complications.
4. Emergency & Acute Care
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies within the centre.
- Perform initial assessment and stabilization of deteriorating patients.
- Initiate emergency management according to established clinical protocols and within the RMO's scope of practice.
- Coordinate with emergency services, hospitals and specialist consultants when escalation or transfer is required.
- Maintain readiness of emergency equipment and medications.
- Ensure appropriate documentation of emergency events.
5. Coordination With Consultants
Work closely with:
- Neurologists
- Neurosurgeons
- Rehabilitation Medicine Specialists
- Physicians
- Physiotherapists
- Occupational Therapists
- Speech & Language Therapists
- Nurses
- Clinical Psychologists
- Dietitians
- Other allied healthcare professionals
Participate in multidisciplinary patient reviews and rehabilitation planning.
6. Patient Monitoring
- Conduct regular ward/room rounds.
- Monitor vital signs and clinical parameters as required.
- Monitor nutrition, hydration and elimination.
- Identify signs of infection and other medical complications.
- Monitor pressure-injury risk and other complications related to immobility.
- Monitor fall risk and patient safety.
- Escalate clinically significant changes promptly.
7. Investigation & Follow-up
- Review laboratory and diagnostic reports.
- Coordinate investigations ordered by treating consultants.
- Follow up on pending investigations.
- Communicate clinically relevant findings to the appropriate consultant.
- Maintain complete patient records.
8. Family & Caregiver Communication
- Communicate appropriately with patients and caregivers regarding routine medical updates.
- Explain treatment-related instructions within the RMO's role.
- Educate caregivers regarding medication, warning signs, mobility precautions and follow-up requirements.
- Escalate complex clinical discussions to the treating consultant when appropriate.
9. Infection Control & Patient Safety
- Follow infection-prevention and control protocols.
- Ensure appropriate hand hygiene and clinical safety practices.
- Support prevention of falls, pressure injuries and other avoidable complications.
- Follow centre policies for patient identification, medication safety and documentation.
- Report adverse events and safety incidents as per policy.
10. Documentation & Handover
- Maintain accurate patient files and progress notes.
- Document clinical assessments, treatment and significant events.
- Maintain appropriate handover between shifts.
- Ensure important clinical information is communicated to the incoming medical team.
- Participate in clinical audits and quality-improvement activities.
Required Qualification
- MBBS from a recognized medical college/institution.
- Valid registration with the applicable State Medical Council/National Medical Commission framework, as required for practice.
- Additional qualification or training in emergency care, critical care, neurology or rehabilitation medicine will be an advantage.
Experience
- 0–2 years: Fresh MBBS candidates with appropriate internship completion may be considered, subject to applicable registration and centre requirements.
- 2+ years: Experience in hospital, rehabilitation centre, neurology, medicine, emergency or critical care preferred.
- Experience managing patients with neurological disorders will be an advantage.

Candidates with training/certification in the following areas will be preferred:
- BLS
- ACLS

Work Workplace
The RMO will work in a multidisciplinary Neuro Rehabilitation Centre providing structured rehabilitation and medical support to patients with neurological and functional disabilities.
The role may involve day/night shifts, weekend duties and emergency/on-call responsibilities, depending on the centre's staffing model.
Compensation
Salary: As per qualification, experience and industry standards.
