Project Engineer — Acrylic Emulsion Polymerization Plant

Build our binder plant — from first drawing to first saleable batch

Rajaswi Chemical is setting up its first emulsion polymerization plant to make acrylic binders for textile sizing and pigment screen printing. We are hiring one engineer to own that build end to end.

You will specify the glass-lined reactor and its dosing system, run procurement and installation, and commission the plant until it makes consistent, on-spec batches. This is a founding role: you will work directly with management and our technical consultants, and your design choices will set the standard for every batch we make.

About Rajaswi Chemical

Rajaswi Chemical Mfg. Ind. Pvt. Ltd. has made textile chemicals since 1984, from its head office at Rajaswi House, Danilimda, Ahmedabad. We supply warp sizing chemicals and pigment pastes to textile clusters across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

Making our own acrylic binders is the next step. We are building a qualified technical team around it, including a dedicated R&D; function.

What you will build

A seeded, semi-batch emulsion polymerization plant, starting with a glass-lined reactor of about 500 kg batch size and laid out to scale up later. It will make acrylic binders for warp sizing and for pigment screen printing.

Key responsibilities

You will own the project from concept to stable production, in five phases.

- Design and specification
- Develop the process flow diagram, P&IDs;, equipment layout and datasheets with our Technical Director and consultants.
- Calculate heat duty for the polymerization exotherm and size the jacket, condenser and utilities to match.
- Write equipment specifications, including the reactor nozzle schedule and the dosing skid.
- Lead a HAZOP before the design is frozen.
- Vendor evaluation
- Prepare technical enquiries,

evaluate bids, and recommend vendors on technical merit.
- Attend factory acceptance tests for the reactor, dosing skid and control panel.
- Installation
- Plan and supervise civil, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation contractors.
- Track schedule, quality and site safety, and report progress weekly.
- Commissioning
- Run water trials, calibrate pumps and meters, complete loop checks, and test every interlock.
- Run the first production batches with the chemist, and prove the reactor stays starved-fed using in-process solids and heat balance.
- Handover
- Deliver as-built drawings, SOPs, batch manufacturing records and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Train operators and shift staff.

You will also support statutory approvals: factory licence, pollution control board consents, and fire and storage licences for flammable monomers.

What you must have

- B.E./B.Tech in Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Engineering/Technology.
- 8+ years in batch chemical plants, including at least one project you took from design to commissioning.
- Hands-on experience with exothermic batch reactions: emulsion polymers, resins, adhesives or paints.
- Specified and commissioned jacketed batch reactors, glass-lined or stainless steel, with agitators and condensers.
- Worked with dosing systems: metering pumps, load cells or mass-flow meters, and PLC recipe control.
- Can read and produce PFDs, P&IDs;, layouts and equipment datasheets; working AutoCAD.

- Can do heat-duty and utility sizing calculations yourself.
- Process safety grounding: HAZOP, flammable liquid handling, runaway prevention.
- Fluent in English and Hindi or Gujarati; able to work on site full time.

What sets you apart

- You have built or run a plant making acrylic, styrene-acrylic or VAE emulsions for paints, adhesives or textile chemicals.
- You have run seeded, starved-feed semi-batch processes and scaled a recipe from lab to plant.
- You have used heat-balance or reaction calorimetry to monitor conversion during a batch.
- You have set up electrical area classification and flameproof installations.
- You know Indian vendors for glass-lined equipment, metering pumps and instrumentation.
- You stayed on to run a plant after commissioning it.
