Responsibilities
Check Documents: Review approved drawings, industry codes (like AWS D1.1 or ASME), and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
Verify Qualifications: Confirm that all welders hold valid certifications for the specific processes they will use.
Inspect Materials and Joint Prep: Check base metals, fit-up alignment, root gaps, bevel angles, and cleanliness of the joint.
Check Consumables: Ensure filler metals, shielding gases, and fluxes match the WPS and are stored properly.
During Welding (In-Process Inspection)
Monitor Parameters: Track voltage, amperage, and travel speed to make sure they match the specifications.
Control Temperatures: Measure and record preheat and interpass temperatures.
Oversee Workmanship: Check for proper cleaning between weld passes, correct slag removal, and the prevention of accidental arc strikes outside the joint.
