Job Description:

A Safety Officer in a steel fabrication plant is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing occupational health and safety (OHS) policies to prevent accidents and injuries in a high-risk manufacturing setting. They ensure compliance with local and national regulations (e.g., OSHA, Factories Act) and foster a "safety-first" culture among staff and contractors.

Key Responsibilities & Duties
Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification: Conducting daily/weekly plant inspections, Job Safety Analyses (JSA), and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) to identify hazards related to machinery, welding, lifting, and hazardous materials.
Compliance & Enforcement: Ensuring adherence to safety protocols, including machine guarding, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and electrical safety.
PPE Management: Enforcing the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (welding helmets, eye protection, safety shoes, etc.) and monitoring inventory.
Incident Investigation: Investigating accidents, near misses, and injuries, conducting root cause analysis,



and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Training & Education: Conducting safety inductions for recent hires/contractors, toolboxes talks, and fire safety/emergency response drills.
Documentation: Maintaining safety records, incident reports, safety training documentation, and compliance registers as per regulatory requirements.
Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs): Reviewing and updating safety SOPs and ensuring proper storage and disposal of hazardous waste.
Emergency Preparedness: Developing and testing emergency evacuation plans and managing first aid facilities.
Contractor Safety: Reviewing subcontractor safety programs and monitoring their compliance in office.

Required Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Safety/Mechanical) or a Diploma in Industrial Safety.
Certifications: NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, or state-approved safety ce
