Karta builds voice AI agents for enterprise fintech companies in India. Our agents handle real customer conversations at scale, in the languages Indian customers actually speak.
We are a small, senior team based in Bengaluru, and we are growing.
The role
You will be Karta's first People & Ops hire, reporting directly to the founders. You will owneverything that keeps the team running: hiring, onboarding, payroll, compliance, policies,and day-to-day operations.
There is no existing HR function to inherit. You will set up the processes yourself, decide which tools and vendors we use, and scale them as the team grows.
What you'll do
Hiring
• Run end-to-end hiring for engineering and business roles: sourcing, screening,scheduling, offers, and closing.
• Build and manage our pipeline, job boards, referral program, and recruiter partners.
Onboarding and employee lifecycle
• Own onboarding and offboarding: offer letters, appointment letters, documentation,background checks, and exit formalities.
• Maintain employee records and run the performance review cycle with the founders.
Payroll and compliance
• Run monthly payroll with our payroll provider and CA, including TDS, PF, ESI, andprofessional tax.
• Keep us compliant with Indian labour law: Shops & Establishments registration,gratuity, leave, and the POSH Act (including setting up the Internal Committee).
• Administer our ESOP plan: grant letters, vesting tracking, and employeecommunication.
Policies and culture
• Write and maintain the employee handbook and core policies (leave, expenses, WFH,code of conduct). Set up perks such as group health insurance, and handle employee queries.
Operations
• Manage office, IT assets, vendors, and subscriptions.
• Support the founders on operational work as needed, such as investor due diligencedocument requests.
What we're looking for
• 3–6 years in HR, People Ops, or HR + admin roles, with at least 2 years at an early-stagestartup.
