Product Design Engineer – Scientific Instruments & Opto-Mechanical Systems

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on Product Design Engineer to design and develop scientific instruments and environmental-monitoring products.

The selected candidate will work on the complete physical design of products, including optical systems, instrument architecture, mechanical components, enclosures and integration of electronics, sensors and user-interface components.

This role requires someone who can convert a functional concept into a working prototype and subsequently into a reliable, manufacturable and commercially deployable product.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop product concepts, system layouts and detailed mechanical designs for scientific instruments
• Design opto-mechanical assemblies for photometric, optical and sensor-based measurement systems
• Support the selection and integration of suitable light sources, detectors, lenses,



filters and other optical components
• Design optical chambers, mounts, holders and alignment mechanisms while controlling ambient light and internal reflections
• Design mechanical enclosures incorporating PCBs, sensors, displays, batteries, printers, connectors and other components
• Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications
• Develop prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining and other rapid-prototyping methods
• Evaluate materials, tolerances, sealing, ergonomics, durability and environmental protection requirements
• Apply Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly principles
• Support enclosure development for injection moulding, vacuum forming, sheet metal or other suitable manufacturing processes
• Conduct fitment, alignment, tolerance and functional testing of prototypes
• Work closely with electronics, firmware, chemistry, software
