We are looking for an experienced and responsible Blood Bank Supervisor with 35 years of relevant experience to oversee the day-to-day operations of the blood bank. The candidate will be responsible for supervising blood bank staff, ensuring proper collection, testing, processing, storage, and issue of blood and blood components, and maintaining quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

- Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Blood Bank.

- Supervise and guide Blood Bank Technicians and other support staff.

- Ensure proper blood donor registration, screening, and blood collection procedures.

- Ensure accurate ABO and Rh blood grouping, antibody screening, and compatibility testing/cross-matching.

- Ensure proper screening of blood for Transfusion Transmitted Infections (TTIs) as per applicable protocols.

- Oversee the processing and handling of blood components such as Packed RBCs, Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP), Platelets, and Whole Blood, as applicable.

- Ensure proper storage, temperature monitoring, and preservation of blood and blood components.

- Monitor blood stock levels and coordinate timely replenishment of required blood groups and components.

- Ensure proper labeling, identification, expiry-date checks, and traceability of blood units.

- Supervise the issue and receipt of blood and blood components according to approved procedures.

- Maintain accurate records of blood collection, testing, component preparation, issue, disposal, and stock.

- Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of blood bank registers, records, and reports.

- Monitor blood bank equipment and ensure regular temperature checks, maintenance, calibration, and reporting of equipment problems.





- Ensure proper handling of reactive, expired, damaged, or unsuitable blood units according to established procedures.

- Coordinate with doctors, nurses, laboratory staff, and other hospital departments for blood and component requirements.

- Ensure compliance with infection control, biomedical waste management, and occupational safety procedures.

- Assist in investigating and documenting transfusion reactions, discrepancies, and adverse events.

- Participate in internal audits, quality control activities, inspections, and corrective/preventive actions.

- Ensure compliance with applicable blood bank regulatory requirements and NABH standards, wherever applicable.

- Train and orient staff regarding blood bank procedures, safety practices, documentation, and quality standards.

- Prepare and submit periodic blood bank reports and operational statistics to the concerned authority.

- Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of donor and patient information.

- Handle emergency blood requirements and ensure timely availability of blood/components.

Required Qualifications

- B.Sc. MLT / B.Sc.

Medical Laboratory

Technology / DMLT

or relevant qualification as per applicable requirements.

- Additional qualification/training in Blood Bank/Transfusion Medicine will be an advantage.

- 3–5 years of relevant experience in a hospital blood bank or transfusion service.

- Robust practical knowledge of blood grouping, cross-matching, TTI screening, component handling, and blood storage.

- Knowledge of blood bank quality management and documentation procedures.

- Familiarity with applicable blood bank regulations and hospital quality standards.

- Ability to supervise and manage a team effectively.
