Objective:
The Protection & SCADA Manager - Transmission is responsible for executing high-quality technical tasks related to electrical protection systems, SCADA operations, and automation technologies to ensure grid reliability, operational efficiency, and system uptime. The role oversees relay setting calculations, fault diagnostics, and real-time SCADA monitoring while supporting root cause analysis (RCA) for tripping incidents, FAT, commissioning, and value engineering across transmission projects and O&M; activities. It ensures adherence to protection and SCADA standards, enhances grid resilience through advanced analytics, and fosters stakeholder collaboration to optimize performance, minimize downtime, and drive cost-effective operations, with readiness to travel as required.
Key Responsibilities of Role:
Operational Excellence & System Reliability:
- Enhance grid protection and SCADA system performance by executing preventive and corrective maintenance for protection relays, SCADA systems, and automation tools as per defined schedules.
- Ensure real-time monitoring and control by leveraging SCADA, SUCOS, and fault analysis systems to detect anomalies, initiate corrective actions, and minimize grid disruptions.
- Strengthen grid stability by maintaining relay coordination, ICT tap settings, and network protection schemes, ensuring optimized fault clearance and minimal misoperations.
- Facilitate smooth asset integration by leading commissioning, testing, and validation of recent protection and SCADA systems, ensuring compliance with operational and cybersecurity standards.
- Optimize outage and maintenance schedules by coordinating AMP execution, planned shutdowns, and emergency system recoveries, ensuring seamless grid transitions.
- Reduce fault response times by tracking critical alarms, relay operations, and SCADA events, ensuring immediate troubleshooting and risk mitigation.
Governance, Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with ISO, cybersecurity, and HSE standards by enforcing regulatory frameworks across protection systems, SCADA operations, and grid automation.
- Minimize protection failures and cyber risks by implementing relay coordination best practices, access control measures, and periodic SCADA security audits.
- Strengthen disaster recovery and grid resilience by ensuring system redundancy, secure data backup, and contingency plans for SCADA failures.
- Enhance compliance transparency by maintaining accurate logs of relay settings, fault clearance times, and SCADA availability, ensuring alignment with RLDC/SLDC reporting mandates.
- Proactively mitigate system risks by performing root cause analysis (RCA) of faults, assessing relay misoperations, and recommending preventive actions.
Technology & Automation Integration:
- Leverage digital tools to optimize grid reliability, predictive fault diagnostics,
and automation efficiency, reducing manual interventions.
- Drive automation enhancements by integrating fault recorders, remote terminal units (RTUs), and IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices) into SCADA platforms.
- Validate system readiness by overseeing Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of protection schemes and SCADA functionalities, ensuring compliance with performance benchmarks.
- Strengthen analytics capabilities by analyzing SCADA event logs, relay tripping data, and automation trends, identifying areas for operational improvement.
- Foster continuous learning by conducting technical training on protection coordination, SCADA advancements, and cybersecurity best practices.
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Ensure seamless execution of protection and SCADA operations by coordinating with ENOC teams, field engineers, and shift operators.
- Align outage planning and fault reporting with RLDC, SLDC, and system operators, ensuring compliance with outage management frameworks.
- Facilitate vendor and OEM collaboration for SCADA upgrades, relay protection tuning, and system modernization, ensuring technical alignment.
- Strengthen regulatory engagement by providing detailed reports on SCADA health, cyber threats, and protection relay performance metrics.
Qualifications and Experience
Educational Qualification:
- B.E. (Electrical) with 5-10 years of Experience
Work Experience (Range of years):
- Experience in Engineering, FAT, Commissioning and Maintenance of Protection relays and schemes from various OEMs.
