About the Role

We’re looking for a Tech Lead to provide technical leadership while remaining deeply involved in building and shipping products.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role . You will work closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and leadership to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

You will own important technical decisions, contribute to architecture and system design, review code, improve engineering practices, mentor engineers, and ensure that products are built with the right balance of speed, reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability .

The ideal candidate is someone who can move comfortably between architecture-level thinking and hands-on implementation . You should be able to simplify complex technical problems, make pragmatic trade-offs, and help the team deliver high-quality software in a fast-moving environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Own Technical Design & Architecture: Design scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems for new products and major features. Evaluate architectural trade-offs and make decisions that support both current requirements and future scale.
- Lead Technical Execution: Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to break complex requirements into clear technical solutions, milestones, and deliverables. Take ownership of critical projects from design through production.
- Stay Hands-On with Development: Contribute directly to the codebase, particularly on complex, high-impact, or technically challenging problems. The role is not limited to reviews or delegation.
- Drive Engineering Quality: Establish and maintain high standards for code quality, testing, documentation, observability, performance, and maintainability.
- Conduct Code Reviews: Review important changes, identify technical risks, promote clean coding practices, and ensure consistency across the codebase.
- Solve Complex Technical Problems: Investigate and resolve challenging issues related to performance, scalability, reliability, integrations, distributed systems, data, and production environments.
- Build for Scale & Reliability: Identify potential bottlenecks and design systems capable of handling growing traffic, data, users, integrations, and messaging workloads.
- Improve Engineering Processes: Identify opportunities to improve development workflows, CI/CD, testing, deployment, monitoring,



incident response, and overall engineering productivity.
- Mentor & Develop Engineers: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, help them solve complex problems, conduct technical discussions, and support their growth.
- Set Technical Standards: Establish best practices around architecture, coding standards, testing, documentation, security, performance, and system reliability.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with Product, Design, QA, DevOps, and other teams to ensure technical decisions align with customer and business requirements.
- Translate Business Requirements into Technical Solutions: Understand the underlying business problem rather than simply implementing feature requests. Help Product teams evaluate technical feasibility, effort, dependencies, and trade-offs.
- Manage Technical Debt: Identify and prioritize technical debt, refactoring, infrastructure improvements, and architectural risks while balancing them against product delivery priorities.
- Own Production Reliability: Participate in incident investigation and root-cause analysis. Drive permanent fixes and improvements to prevent recurring production issues.
- Evaluate New Technologies: Assess tools, frameworks, services, and emerging technologies where they can meaningfully improve product capabilities, engineering efficiency, or scalability.

What We’re Looking For

Experience

- 5–8+ years of qualified software engineering experience , with experience taking technical ownership of significant systems or products.
- Proven experience designing, building, and operating scalable production systems .
- Experience leading technical projects or mentoring engineers in a collaborative engineering environment.
- Strong experience working across the complete software development lifecycle—from technical design and development to testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Experience working in a fast-paced product or startup setting is preferred.

Technical Skills

- Strong programming fundamentals: Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented/design principles, and software engineering best practices.
- System Design: Strong ability to design scalable, fault-tolerant, secure, and maintainable systems.
- Backend Engineering: Strong experience building APIs, services, integrations, and backend systems.
- Database Expertise: Strong understanding of relational and/or NoSQL databases, data modelling, indexing, transactions, and performance optimization.
- Distributed Systems: Understanding of asynchronous processing, queues, caching, concurrency, event-driven architectures, and distributed system trade-offs.
- API & Integrations: Experience designing and integrating REST APIs, webhooks,



third-party services, and external platforms.
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, deployment, networking, containers, and CI/CD practices.
- Testing & Quality: Strong understanding of automated testing, code quality, debugging, observability, and production readiness.
- Security: Understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, data protection, and secure engineering practices.

Leadership & Ownership

- Strong ability to make technical decisions and communicate the reasoning behind them.
- Ability to balance speed of execution with long-term technical quality .
- Strong mentoring and coaching skills with the ability to raise the technical bar across the team.
- Ability to break ambiguous problems into clear technical approaches.
- Solid communication skills across both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- High ownership, accountability, and bias toward solving problems rather than simply identifying them.

Good to Have

- Experience building high-scale SaaS or B2B products .
- Experience with messaging platforms, communication APIs, automation, AI, chatbots, or customer engagement products .
- Experience handling high-volume event processing, messaging, or real-time systems.
- Experience with WhatsApp Business API or similar communication platforms .
- Experience with AI/LLM-based applications, agents, or AI-assisted product experiences.
- Experience with microservices, event-driven architecture, Kafka/RabbitMQ, Redis, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, or similar technologies.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, or up-to-date cloud infrastructure.
- Experience owning production systems and participating in on-call, incident management, and post-incident reviews.
- Experience hiring, interviewing, and developing software engineers.
