Technical Director - Design for Test (DFT)
Summary:
The Technical Director - DFT is the chief technical authority for our Design-for-Test service line. This strategic leadership role involves defining the cutting-edge DFT methodologies applicable across diverse client projects, leading critical high-stakes execution, and serving as the primary technical interface for business development and client advisory.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical & Service Strategy
- Domain Expertise:
- DFT Scan Insertion, DFT RTL Integration Activities, ATPG pattern generation and pattern verification, Post Silicon Debug, ATPG Coverage Improvement, SpyglassDFT, LBIST Verification, MBIST Integration and Verification and low-power DFT.
- Tool & Flow Mastery: Define the core technology strategy and create standardized, reusable flows for commercial EDA tools used in DFT insertion and pattern generation, ensuring maximum efficiency and compatibility across client environments.
- Continuous Improvement: Continuously simplify and improve design and test methodologies, optimizing test cost and performance based on market trends and manufacturing feedback.
2. Client Leadership & Business Acumen
- Pre-Sales & Solutioning: Provide expert technical solutioning for RFPs (Request for Proposals). Work with the Business Development team to define project scope, accurately estimate effort, create compelling technical proposals, and articulate the unique value of our DFT services.
- Strategic Client Advisor: Build and maintain high-trust technical relationships with client executives and engineering leaders, acting as a reliable, strategic advisor on their long-term silicon test strategy.
- Architectural Evangelism: Clearly articulate, document, and "sell" architectural targets and recommendations to both client and internal project teams, ensuring the final solution meets both technical rigor and business needs.
3.
Team Leadership & Competency Building
- Team Management: Lead, mentor, and strategically scale a team of high-performing DFT engineers and consultants.
- Talent Development: Drive the development of internal training programs, Proof of Concepts (POCs), and technical certifications to maintain the team's expertise on the latest test standards, such as ISO 26262 and advanced process nodes.
- Thought Leadership & Branding: Be the voice of the organization’s DFT Thought Leadership by developing white papers, presenting at industry forums, and contributing to market recognition (e.g., analyst rankings, client testimonials).
- Recruitment & Mentorship: Contribute to the technical architecture practice by conducting selection interviews and mentoring junior architects and developers.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: 15+ years in VLSI design, with 5+ years in a leadership role in a semiconductor service/consulting or EDA company.
- DFT Expertise: Expert-level, tool-agnostic understanding of advanced DFT techniques (ATPG algorithms, scan compression, fault modeling, MBIST/LBIST) and their application in deep submicron technologies.
- Business & Consulting Acumen: Demonstrated success in technical pre-sales, project scoping, managing client expectations, and contributing significantly to service contract wins.
- ATE & Manufacturing: Robust command of the relationship between DFT features, silicon manufacturing processes, high-volume testing on ATE platforms (Teradyne, Advantest), and yield optimization.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to distill complex DFT trade-offs into clear, strategic presentations for both executive management and technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262) and their impact on DFT implementation.
- Prior experience managing multiple, concurrent, and technologically diverse client DFT projects.
