Scanbo Global is looking for a Sodium-Ion Battery Engineer for its Surat, India office. The engineer will develop and validate rechargeable battery cells, from material selection and laboratory prototypes through pilot production. The role requires hands-on work with electrode preparation, cell assembly, electro-chemical testing, and failure analysis.
Experience: 3–7 years in battery research, cell development, or manufacturing
Responsibilities:
- Select and evaluate cathode materials, hard-carbon anodes, electrolytes, separators, and current collectors for sodium-ion cells.
- Develop electrode formulations and optimise slurry mixing, coating, drying, calendaring, and electrodebalancing.
- Build and test laboratory cells, then support development of pouch or cylindrical cells.
- Establish formation and ageing procedures. Evaluate capacity, cycle life, efficiency, internal resistance, self-discharge, and temperature performance.
- Use electrochemical and material characterisation methods to investigate degradation and cell failures.
- Plan experiments, analyse results, and maintain clear records of formulations, processes, and test conditions.
- Work with equipment and material suppliers to improve consistency, yield, safety, and cost.
- Prepare manufacturing procedures, quality checks, and technical specifications for pilot production.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electronics, and BMS engineers on cell integration and operating limits.
- Support safety testing and qualification against applicable transport and product requirements.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience developing rechargeable battery cells. Direct sodium-ion experience is strongly preferred.
- Practical experience with electrode preparation, glovebox operations, cell assembly, and battery cyclers.
- Working knowledge of cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and
- charge–discharge testing.
- Ability to connect test results with material properties and manufacturing conditions.
- Experience handling battery chemicals safely and maintaining laboratory procedures.
- Robust technical documentation and problem-solving skills.
Preferred experience:
- Work with hard-carbon anodes and sodium-ion cathodes such as layered oxides, Prussian blue analogues, or polyanionic materials.
- Experience transferring laboratory processes to pilot production.
- Familiarity with material characterisation techniques such as XRD and SEM.
- Experience in cell cost modelling, supplier qualification, and manufacturing quality control.
