Senior QA Automation Engineer – CTV

Position Overview

TEGNA is looking for a Senior QA Automation Engineer – CTV with 5–7 years of experience to join our dynamic engineering team. The role will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust automation frameworks while ensuring high-quality and reliable CTV applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Playwright, Cucumber/BDD, JavaScript/TypeScript, API testing, CI/CD, and experience testing applications across CTV platforms such as Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, and Apple TV.

The candidate will work closely with Product, Development, DevOps, and other cross-functional teams to drive automation strategy, improve test coverage, identify defects, and continuously enhance product quality.

What You’ll Do

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable automation frameworks.
- Develop automated test scripts using Playwright, Cucumber (BDD), JavaScript, and/or TypeScript.
- Execute functional, regression, smoke, integration, end-to-end, and API testing.
- Automate and validate CTV applications across platforms including Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, and Apple TV, where applicable.
- Collaborate with Product, Development, DevOps, and other cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Analyze automation failures, perform root-cause analysis, report defects, and validate fixes.




- Support and integrate automated test execution with CI/CD pipelines.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, sprint planning, estimation, and release activities.
- Lead automation strategy and continuously improve test frameworks, automation coverage, and testing practices.
- Develop reusable automation components and maintain automation scripts for long-term scalability.
- Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to automation coding standards and best practices.
- Mentor QA engineers and provide technical guidance on automation practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve test efficiency, quality, and overall automation effectiveness.
- React to changes positively, handle other essential tasks as assigned, and productively challenge the status quo as appropriate.

What You Bring

- 5–7 years of demonstrated experience in QA Automation / Software Testing.
- Strong hands-on experience with Playwright.
- Strong programming experience in JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
- Hands-on experience with Cucumber and BDD-based automation frameworks.
- Experience with functional, regression, smoke, integration, end-to-end, and API testing.
- Experience testing or automating CTV/OTT applications and devices.
- Hands-on exposure to one or more CTV platforms such as Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, and Apple TV.
- Strong understanding of automation framework architecture, reusable components, Page Object Model, assertions, and test data management.




- Experience with Git and source-control practices.
- Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated test execution.
- Strong debugging, defect investigation, and root-cause analysis skills.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Product, Engineering, DevOps, and other teams.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualification

- Experience working in CTV, OTT, streaming media, digital media, or video applications.
- Hands-on experience across multiple CTV platforms such as Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, and Apple TV.
- Experience designing, building, or enhancing automation frameworks using Playwright.
- Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript-based automation frameworks.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with API automation and backend validation.
- Experience with test automation reporting and debugging automation failures.
- Experience mentoring QA engineers and conducting automation code reviews.
- Knowledge of performance, compatibility, localization, or cross-platform testing is a plus.
