Jai Trading Co. is an established readymade garment manufacturer headquartered in Kolkata, with four manufacturing units and over 20 years of manufacturing experience. The company manufactures knits, wovens, denim and combination garments and serves leading domestic retail chains as well as international buyers.

With approximately 750 sewing machines, 20 production lines and an average capacity of 15,000 pieces per day, the company has an integrated production, quality and merchandising setup.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Garment Merchandiser who can take ownership of customer orders from order confirmation through final delivery.

The role will involve close coordination with buyers, fabric and trim suppliers, sampling, production, quality and dispatch teams to ensure that every order meets the required quality, cost, timeline and buyer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Buyer & Order Management

- Act as the primary point of coordination for assigned buyers/orders.
- Understand buyer requirements, tech packs, specifications, quality standards and delivery commitments.
- Handle order execution from confirmation through shipment.
- Maintain strong, professional relationships with buyers and buying teams.
- Ensure timely communication of order status, risks and changes.

2. Product Development & Sampling

- Coordinate development of samples, prototypes and size sets.
- Work with the production and technical teams to ensure samples meet buyer specifications.
- Follow up on sample approvals and incorporate buyer comments.
- Ensure approved samples/specifications are correctly communicated to production.

3. Fabric & Trims

- Coordinate fabric booking and procurement in line with approved specifications.
- Follow up on fabric availability,



quality, testing and delivery.
- Coordinate trims, accessories, labels, packaging and other order requirements.
- Identify potential material delays and escalate them early.

4. TNA & Production Follow-up

- Prepare and maintain Time & Action (TNA) plans for every order.
- Track critical milestones from fabric booking to cutting, sewing, finishing, inspection and dispatch.
- Coordinate closely with production across the company's manufacturing units.
- Identify bottlenecks and drive corrective action to ensure delivery schedules are met.
- Maintain accurate order status reports.

Jai Trading specifically operates its merchandising function from fabric booking through TNA to delivery, in close coordination with production and quality. 5. Quality & Compliance

- Work closely with the Quality team to ensure buyer specifications and quality standards are maintained.
- Ensure quality issues are identified and resolved at the appropriate stage rather than at final inspection.
- Coordinate with quality teams on inspection reports, measurements, tolerances and corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with buyer-specific quality and documentation requirements.

The company follows multiple quality checkpoints including fabric inspection, measurement checks, endline inspection and final checking. 6. Costing & Commercial Coordination

- Understand garment costing and contribute to accurate costing of styles.
- Coordinate with production, sourcing and management on cost optimisation.
- Track order quantities, prices, consumption and commercial terms.
- Support negotiations and commercial discussions with buyers where required.

7. Shipment & Delivery





- Coordinate with production, quality, packing and logistics teams to ensure on-time dispatch.
- Monitor shipment readiness against buyer deadlines.
- Ensure all required documents and approvals are in place before shipment.
- Escalate any potential delivery risk well in advance.

What We Are Looking For

- 8-10 years of relevant experience in garment merchandising, preferably with an apparel manufacturer/export house.
- Solid understanding of knits, wovens and/or denim.
- Experience managing the complete order lifecycle.
- Strong understanding of TNA, sampling, fabric booking, trims, production follow-up and shipment.
- Experience dealing directly with domestic retail buyers and/or international buyers.
- Good understanding of garment construction, production processes and quality requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent follow-up and coordination ability.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work under tight delivery timelines and manage multiple orders simultaneously.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and merchandising/order management systems.
