We are hiring a Bridge Design / Structural Design Engineering professional for our corporate Office.
- Position: Senior Manager / Assistant general manager (Structural Design)
- Functional expertise: Bridge Structural Design / Major & Important Bridges
- Industry: Infrastructure / Highways / Bridges / EPC / Transportation
- Qualification: B. Tech / B.E. in Civil Engineering from a recognized university / institution.
- Preferred: M. Tech / M.E. in Structural Engineering / Bridge Engineering.
- Experience: Min.12 yrs of relevant experience in structural/bridge design, with substantial experience in the design and engineering of Major Bridges and Important Bridges for highway, expressway, railway, or other large-scale infrastructure projects.
The role requires strong technical expertise in bridge structural analysis, design, detailing, design review, constructability, seismic and wind considerations, foundation systems, and construction-stage engineering, along with the ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, design consultants, contractors, and project authorities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Bridge Structural Design
- Lead structural design activities for Major Bridges, Important Bridges, Viaducts, Flyovers, ROBs/RUBs, elevated corridors, and complex bridge structures.
- Develop and review concept, preliminary, detailed and construction-stage structural designs.
- Design and review bridge components including:
- Deck slabs and superstructures
- PSC/RCC/steel girders
- Box girders and segmental bridges
- Piers, pier caps and abutments
- Foundations, pile foundations and pile caps
- Bearings and expansion joints
- Retaining and approach structures
- Wing walls and return walls
- Temporary and construction-stage structures
- Evaluate alternative structural systems considering safety, durability, constructability, construction methodology, time and cost optimization.
2. Structural Analysis & Engineering
- Review and undertake structural analysis for bridge structures subjected to:
- Dead and live loads
- Impact and braking forces
- Wind loads
- Seismic forces
- Temperature and shrinkage effects
- Creep and shrinkage
- Earth pressure
- Water/current forces, where applicable
- Construction-stage and erection loads
- Other project-specific loading conditions
- Review structural modelling, load combinations, design parameters, analysis results, and design assumptions.
- Conduct/review global and local structural analysis as required for complex bridge structures.
- Review serviceability,
strength, stability, fatigue, durability, and ultimate limit-state requirements.
3. Major & Important Bridge Design
- Demonstrated experience in the design of long-span, high-level, major river bridges and other technically complex bridge structures will be preferred.
- Experience with bridges involving deep foundations, difficult geotechnical conditions, high seismic zones, waterways, navigational requirements, or challenging construction conditions will be an advantage.
- Review structural concepts for different bridge construction methods such as:
- Cast-in-situ construction
- Precast/segmental construction
- Precast prestressed girders
- Incremental launching
- Balanced cantilever construction
- Span-by-span construction
- Steel/composite bridge erection
- Coordinate structural design with the proposed construction methodology and erection sequence.
4. Foundation & Substructure Engineering
- Review design of bridge foundations considering geotechnical investigation, soil parameters, scour, seismic effects, settlement, lateral loads, and foundation capacity.
- Review pile, pile-cap, open/well/other foundation systems as applicable to the project.
- Coordinate with geotechnical and hydrology experts for foundation and river-crossing design.
- Review scour protection and foundation safety for bridges across rivers and water bodies.
5. Design Codes & Standards
- Ensure bridge designs comply with applicable Indian Standards, IRC codes, MoRTH specifications, relevant IS codes, project specifications, and authority requirements.
- Working knowledge of applicable international standards such as AASHTO, Eurocodes, BS/EN or other project-specific standards will be an advantage.
- Maintain awareness of revisions and updates to relevant bridge design standards and specifications.
6. Drawings & Detailing
- Review and approve structural drawings, reinforcement detailing, bar bending schedules, fabrication drawings, erection drawings, and construction details.
- Ensure design drawings are clear, coordinated, constructible, and consistent with design calculations.
- Review design deliverables prepared by internal teams and external structural consultants.

Design Review & Consultant Management
- Lead technical review of structural designs submitted by design consultants, EPC contractors, and specialist agencies.
- Check structural calculations, design reports, drawings, specifications, and technical submissions.
- Coordinate with consultants for timely resolution of design comments, RFIs, technical queries, and design changes.
- Monitor design deliverables, quality, schedule, and compliance with project requirements.
- Participate in technical/design review meetings with the Client, Authority, Independent Engineer, PMC, contractors, and consultants.
8. Construction Support
- Provide technical support to site teams during bridge construction.
- Resolve structural issues arising during execution and provide technically sound solutions.
- Review proposed construction changes, temporary works, erection schemes, and method statements from a structural perspective.
- Support investigation and resolution of site deviations, structural defects, construction constraints, and unforeseen conditions.
- Ensure that construction activities remain consistent with approved structural designs.
9. Value Engineering & Optimization
- Identify opportunities for structural optimization, material savings, constructability improvement, and reduction in construction time without compromising safety, durability, or performance.
- Evaluate alternative bridge configurations, spans, foundation systems, construction methods, and materials.
- Provide technical inputs for cost optimization and lifecycle considerations.
Software Skills: Robust working knowledge of STAAD. Pro or relevant structural engineering software. Candidates should preferably have experience in:
- Major and Key Highway Bridges
- Major River Bridges

- Steel and Composite Bridges
- Segmental Bridges
- Flyovers and Viaducts
- Elevated Highway Corridors
