Key Responsibilities
A. Design & Collection Development
- Lead the design and development of women’s western wear collections in line with the brand’s design direction and seasonal requirements.
- Develop design concepts, mood boards, colour palettes, prints, silhouettes, and detailed design specifications.
- Create collections across relevant categories such as dresses, tops, shirts, trousers, skirts, co-ord sets, jumpsuits, and other western wear categories.
- Ensure designs are aligned with the brand's positioning, target customer, price points, and commercial objectives.
- Develop innovative designs while maintaining consistency in brand aesthetics and design identity.
B. Trend Forecasting & Market Research
- Conduct regular market visits, competitor analysis, and trend research to identify emerging silhouettes, colours, prints, fabrics, and design directions.
- Track global and domestic fashion trends and translate relevant trends into commercially viable collections.
- Understand customer preferences, changing fashion sensibilities, and market demand.
- Present seasonal trend directions and design concepts to the management team.
C. Fabric, Colour & Print Development
- Identify suitable fabrics, trims, embellishments, prints, and surface treatments for different product categories.
- Work closely with sourcing and merchandising teams to evaluate fabric availability, quality, cost, and suitability.
- Develop colour stories, print placements, and fabric combinations aligned with seasonal collections.
- Ensure the right balance between design innovation, product quality, and cost feasibility.
D. Technical Design & Product Development
- Prepare detailed tech packs, design specifications, measurement charts, and garment construction details.
- Coordinate with pattern makers, sampling teams, vendors, and production teams to develop samples.
- Review fit, drape,
construction, finishing, and overall garment aesthetics during sample development.
- Conduct sample reviews and ensure timely incorporation of fit and design corrections.
- Ensure design specifications are clearly communicated to all relevant stakeholders.
E. Commercial & Business Alignment
- Develop collections in line with seasonal calendars, product categories, target price points, and customer requirements.
- Work closely with merchandising, sourcing, buying, and retail teams to ensure timely collection development and launch.
- Consider target costing, margin expectations, fabric consumption, and production feasibility during the design process.
- Analyse sales feedback, customer preferences, and product performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Recommend design modifications and recent product opportunities based on market response and business requirements.
F. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Collaborate with merchandising, sourcing, production, quality, and retail teams to ensure smooth execution of the design calendar.
- Coordinate with vendors and manufacturing partners to maintain design intent and product quality.
- Ensure timely completion of design development, sampling, approvals, and collection handovers.
- Participate in range reviews and collection presentations with senior management.
G. Team Management & Design Leadership
- Guide and mentor junior designers and design team members.
- Review design concepts, technical specifications,
and sample development to maintain quality standards.
- Establish effective design workflows and ensure adherence to seasonal development timelines.
- Encourage creative thinking, innovation, and continuous improvement within the design team.
3 . Candidate Profile
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in women’s western wear design .
- Proven experience designing collections for a fashion, apparel, or retail brand.
- Strong understanding of women’s western wear categories, silhouettes, fits, fabrics, garment construction, and finishing.
- Experience in end-to-end collection development, from trend research and concept creation to sampling and final product handover.
- Strong knowledge of domestic and international fashion trends.
- Experience in preparing tech packs, measurement charts, and garment specifications.
- Understanding of costing, sourcing, merchandising, and commercial aspects of apparel design.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and relevant fashion design software.
- Strong presentation, communication, coordination, and team management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple collections and meet seasonal deadlines.
A seasoned women’s western wear designer with strong creative capabilities, commercial understanding, and end-to-end collection development experience, capable of translating fashion trends into distinctive, market-relevant, and commercially viable products. 6. Portfolio Requirement
Candidates must submit a portfolio showcasing their work in women’s western wear, including relevant collections, silhouettes, fabric and print development, design concepts, and product development experience.
Candidates should be able to clearly explain their individual contribution to the collections presented.
