Senior Accountant / Head of Accounts

BANGALORE BASED APPLICANTS ONLY | SOUTH BANGALORE BASED PREFERRED

Position Overview

Pratibha Academy is seeking an experienced and responsible Senior Accountant / Head of Accounts to lead the complete finance and accounting function of the institution.

This is the senior-most accounting position in the Academy, with responsibility for financial records, statutory compliance, budgeting, payments, payroll-related accounting, audits, reporting, internal controls and financial documentation.

The ideal candidate should have at least 7 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a school, university, educational institution, hospital, trust, NGO, or other non-trading/non-corporate organisation. Experience letters and documentation of work done will be verified.

Key Responsibilities

1. Accounting & Financial Management

- Maintain complete and accurate books of accounts and financial records.
- Manage receipts, payments, bank transactions, journals, ledgers, reconciliations and monthly closing.
- Monitor income and expenditure against approved budgets.
- Prepare regular financial statements and management reports.
- Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all financial transactions.

2. Institutional Finance

- Manage the Academy's day-to-day financial operations.
- Prepare annual budgets and periodic expenditure statements.
- Monitor fee collections, expenses, vendor payments, reimbursements and institutional commitments.
- Maintain appropriate controls over cash, imprest, advances and petty cash.
- Review and verify supporting documents before processing payments.

3. Statutory Compliance & Audit

- Ensure timely compliance with applicable GST, TDS, income tax, professional tax, PF/ESI and other statutory requirements, as applicable to the institution.
- Coordinate with statutory auditors, tax consultants and other professional advisors.




- Prepare schedules, statements and supporting documentation required for audits.
- Ensure timely filing of statutory returns and maintenance of compliance records.

4. Payroll & Employee Accounts

- Coordinate payroll processing and verify salary-related calculations.
- Maintain records relating to employee deductions, statutory contributions, reimbursements and advances.
- Coordinate with HR/admin for joining, separation and other employee-related financial documentation.

5. Vendor & Procurement Accounts

- Verify bills, purchase documents, quotations, approvals and supporting records.
- Maintain vendor ledgers and payment schedules.
- Ensure payments are made only against properly authorised documentation.
- Track outstanding payments and receivables.

6. Financial Controls & Reporting

- Establish and maintain strong internal financial controls.
- Identify discrepancies, irregularities or control gaps and report them to management.
- Provide timely financial information to the Chairman/Management for decision-making.
- Prepare MIS reports, cash-flow statements, expenditure summaries and other reports as required.

7. Institutional Coordination

- Work closely with the Chairman, administration, HR, school management and external professionals.
- Maintain confidentiality of all financial and employee information.
- Ensure that accounting procedures are consistently followed across the institution.
- Guide and supervise junior accounting/administrative staff, where applicable.

Essential Qualifications & Experience




- Minimum 7 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:
- Schools or educational institutions
- Universities/colleges
- Hospitals/healthcare institutions
- Trusts, societies or NGOs
- Other non-trading institutions
- Candidates with primarily trading, retail or corporate commercial accounting experience may not be preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce/Accounting/Finance required.
- CA Inter / M.Com / equivalent professional qualification will be an advantage.
- Strong working knowledge of Tally/ERP, Excel, GST, TDS, payroll and statutory compliance.

- Ability to work directly with senior management and external auditors.
- Proactive, dependable and capable of meeting statutory and institutional deadlines.

Reporting Reports directly to: Chairman / Management

Role: Senior-most Accounting Function within the Academy

Nature of Appointment

Full time, senior administrative/finance position.

Provident Fund as per govt rules.

Candidates who have independently managed accounts and finance for an educational institution or similar non-trading organisation are particularly encouraged to apply.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
