Quality Assurance Lead - Health Insurance Platforms & Release Governance
Work Mode: Remote
Time Zone: Montreal Business Hours (9 AM - 5 PM EST)
Experience: 8+ Years
About the Role
We are hiring a Quality Assurance Lead to own QA governance, vendor release validation, regression strategy, and hands-on testing execution across a health insurance organization's enterprise platforms.
This is a lean, high-impact role. You will be the primary QA owner, working directly with the CTO and a Business Analyst. There is no QA team to manage. The expectation is that you personally drive testing strategy, execute critical test cycles, and progressively build repeatable QA practices across the organization's technology ecosystem.
The technology landscape includes a policy administration system (CoverGo), Salesforce, an accounting platform (Business Central), broker and member portals, and multiple vendor integrations. Vendor releases arrive frequently, and production stability is a live concern.
Operating Model
This is a player-coach role in the truest sense. You will:
- Define QA strategy, governance frameworks, and testing standards
- Personally execute regression, functional, and release validation testing
- Review vendor release notes, assess impact, and own go/no-go decisions
- Create and maintain test cases, defect tickets, and regression suites
- Coordinate with vendors to improve release quality and deployment discipline
- Work as part of a small team (CTO, QA Lead, BA) where everyone contributes directly
If your expectation is to manage a team from day one, this is not the right fit. If you want to build something from the ground up and own it end to end, this role was designed for you.
Key Responsibilities
Vendor Release Validation & Regression Governance
- Review vendor release notes and perform impact analysis across business workflows, integrations, and platforms
- Define and execute risk-based regression testing strategies across CoverGo, Salesforce, Business Central, portals, and integrations
- Prioritize business-critical workflows for reusable regression coverage
- Coordinate production readiness, release signoff, and go-live validation
- Maintain traceability between requirements, defects, releases, and regression coverage
Insurance Platform & Workflow Quality Own testing governance across critical health insurance workflows:
- Policy lifecycle (quote, bind, issue)
- Member onboarding and movements
- Endorsements and renewals
- Billing and invoicing (including Stripe integration flows)
- Broker and member portal functionality
- Claims submission and TPA data exchange
- Cross-platform data flows across CoverGo, Salesforce, and Business Central
QA Governance & Testing Strategy
- Define and implement standardized QA processes, defect management, and test documentation practices
- Establish testing approaches for functional, integration, performance, and regression testing
- Define QA metrics, release quality indicators, and testing governance KPIs
- Improve visibility into release readiness, production stability, and release risks
Automation & Non-Functional Testing
- Progressively introduce practical automation for stable and repetitive regression scenarios
- Define automation approaches balancing business value, maintenance effort, and release frequency
- Establish baseline performance testing approaches for critical workflows and integrations
Required Experience
Must-Haves
- 8+ years in QA / Test Management / QA Governance roles
- Genuine health insurance domain depth across the product lifecycle:
- Policy issuance, underwriting, endorsements, renewals
- Billing, invoicing, premium collection
- Claims submission and processing workflows
- Member and broker portal operations
- This is the single most key requirement. P&C; or general insurance experience alone will not suffice.
- Experience with vendor/platform release validation, including release note analysis, impact assessment, regression planning, and release signoff
- Experience defining regression strategies and building reusable regression coverage
- Hands-on QA execution capability, not just governance or oversight
- Strong communication, structured thinking, and the ability to work independently in a remote, lean setup
- Willingness to ramp up on Salesforce QA. The organization uses Salesforce for broker management, commissions, opportunity tracking, and policy workflow integration. You will be expected to learn and own Salesforce QA within the first 60-90 days.
Strong Preferences
- Experience with health insurance administration platforms (CoverGo, Guidewire, EIS, Majesco, or similar)
- Familiarity with TPA relationships and outsourced claims administration
- Experience in SaaS/vendor-driven environments where you are the client, not the software house
- Moderate-to-strong automation capability (Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar)
- Exposure to performance and non-functional testing
- Familiarity with AI-assisted QA workflows. The team actively uses AI tools (such as Claude) for test case generation, Jira ticket creation, and accelerating day-to-day QA work. Comfort with AI-augmented workflows is advantageous.
The Right Profile
You have worked in health insurance long enough that you do not need someone to explain policy lifecycle, member movements, or renewal workflows to you. You understand how these things work operationally, not just theoretically.
You are someone who sets things up, not someone who waits for a framework to be handed to them. You have done this before in at least one organization where QA practices were either absent or immature, and you built or significantly improved them.
You are comfortable being the sole QA voice in a small team. You do not need a large team around you to be effective. You are hands-on by preference, not by compromise.
You understand that in a vendor-driven SaaS ecosystem, protecting production stability requires disciplined regression, structured release validation, and practical prioritization of what to test and when.
You communicate clearly and proactively in a remote setting. You raise problems early, propose solutions, and do not wait to be asked.
