Primary Teacher (PRT)_Nursery to Class 1
Department: Primary / Foundational Years
Reports To: Principal / Vice Principal / Academic Coordinator
Employment Type: Full-Time
1. JOB PURPOSE
The Primary Teacher will be responsible for providing a safe, engaging, nurturing and stimulating learning environment for students from Nursery to Class 1. The role involves developing students academically while giving equal importance to their holistic growth—including social, emotional, physical, creative, behavioural and communication development.
The teacher is expected to act as a facilitator, mentor, role model and caregiver, helping young learners develop strong foundational skills, positive habits, confidence, curiosity, independence and a love for learning.
1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESA. Teaching & Learning
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate, engaging and interactive lessons for Nursery to Class 1.
- Follow the school's curriculum, academic plan, teaching methodologies and learning objectives.
- Develop strong foundational skills in:
- Language and communication
- Phonics and early literacy
- Numeracy and mathematical thinking
- Environmental awareness
- General knowledge
- Fine and gross motor skills
- Use activity-based, experiential and play-based learning methodologies wherever appropriate.
- Adapt teaching strategies according to individual students' learning abilities and requirements.
- Encourage students to ask questions, explore, experiment and express themselves.
- Integrate stories, games, activities, music, art, movement and practical experiences into classroom learning.
- Ensure that classroom activities are age-appropriate, inclusive and engaging.
1. HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS
The teacher will be responsible for supporting the overall development of every child, beyond academic achievement. Social & Emotional Development
- Help children develop confidence, empathy, cooperation and respect for others.
- Teach students to express their feelings and communicate appropriately.
- Encourage sharing, teamwork and positive peer relationships.
- Help children develop the ability to manage emotions and resolve age-appropriate conflicts.
Communication Development
- Encourage students to communicate confidently in English and/or the school's prescribed language of instruction.
- Develop listening, speaking, vocabulary and conversational skills.
- Provide opportunities for students to participate in discussions, storytelling, role play and presentations.
Physical Development
- Encourage participation in age-appropriate physical activities, games and exercises.
- Develop fine motor skills through drawing, colouring, writing, craft and hands-on activities.
- Support development of coordination, balance and gross motor skills.
Creative Development
- Encourage creativity through:
- Art and craft

- Creative expression
- Provide opportunities for children to think creatively rather than simply reproduce answers.

1. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
- Maintain a safe, disciplined, positive and welcoming classroom environment.
- Establish clear and age-appropriate classroom routines and expectations.
- Promote positive discipline rather than fear-based discipline.
- Ensure that students are treated with patience, dignity, fairness and respect.
- Monitor student behaviour and address behavioural concerns appropriately.
- Ensure classroom materials, furniture and learning resources are organised and safely maintained.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of students at all times.
1. ASSESSMENT & STUDENT PROGRESS
- Regularly observe and assess students' academic, behavioural, social and developmental progress.
- Conduct assessments as per the school's academic calendar and assessment policy.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and development.
- Identify students who require additional academic or developmental support.
- Provide appropriate remedial, reinforcement or enrichment activities.
- Track individual student progress and communicate significant observations to the Academic Coordinator / School Leadership.
- Ensure assessment is used to improve learning rather than merely to assign marks or grades.
1. INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION & INCLUSIVE EDUCATION
- Recognise that every child learns at a different pace.
- Provide appropriate individual attention and differentiated learning support.
- Identify learning difficulties, behavioural concerns or developmental concerns at an early stage.
- Work with the school leadership, counsellor, special educator or parents where required.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and their personal or developmental information.
- Promote an inclusive classroom where every student feels valued and supported.
1. PARENT COMMUNICATION
- Maintain professional and respectful communication with parents/guardians.
- Provide meaningful feedback regarding the child's academic and overall development.
- Participate in Parent-Teacher Meetings and other parent interaction programmes.
- Communicate concerns regarding a student's academic, behavioural or developmental progress through the appropriate school channels.
- Avoid making commitments or statements outside the teacher's authority.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all parent interactions.
1. LESSON PLANNING & ACADEMIC DOCUMENTATION
- Prepare lesson plans and teaching resources within the timelines prescribed by the school.
- Maintain required academic records, lesson plans, worksheets, assessments and student portfolios.
- Complete syllabus and learning objectives within the prescribed academic schedule.
- Prepare age-appropriate worksheets, activities, projects and learning resources.
- Maintain documentation relating to student progress and classroom activities.
- Participate in curriculum planning and academic review meetings.
1. CO-CURRICULAR & SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
The teacher is expected to actively participate in the broader life of the school.

- Prioritise the safety and wellbeing of students at all times.
- Follow all school policies relating to child safety, supervision and safeguarding.
- Remain vigilant during classroom activities, transitions, breaks and school events.
- Immediately report accidents, injuries, safeguarding concerns or serious behavioural incidents through the prescribed procedure.
- Never use corporal punishment or humiliating/discriminatory behaviour.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students.
1. USE OF TECHNOLOGY
- Use appropriate digital tools and technology to enhance classroom learning.
- Incorporate smart classroom resources, educational videos, interactive content and digital learning tools where appropriate.
- Maintain appropriate digital and professional conduct.
- Ensure technology is used purposefully and in an age-appropriate manner.

1. QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCEMinimum Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in any relevant discipline.
- B.Ed. / D.El.Ed. / NTT / equivalent teacher-training qualification, as applicable to the school's recruitment requirements.
- Strong command of English and effective communication skills.
Experience
- Prior teaching experience in a school / preschool / primary school workplace is preferred.
- Experience handling Nursery, Kindergarten, LKG, UKG or Classes 1–2 will be an advantage.
- Freshers with strong communication skills, relevant qualifications and the right aptitude may also be considered.

1. CORE EXPECTATIONThe success of a PRT at NPS International Academy will not be measured only by how much the child learns from the textbook, but by how much the child grows as a confident, curious, disciplined, compassionate and independent learner.
The teacher is expected to create a classroom where children feel safe, enjoy learning, develop confidence, build solid foundational skills and gradually become responsible and independent individuals.
1. CAREER PROGRESSION
Subject to performance, qualifications, experience and availability of positions, the career path may include: PRT → Senior PRT → Grade/Section Coordinator → Academic Coordinator → Vice Principal → Principal
This is intended to define the primary responsibilities of the position and may be modified by the school from time to time based on academic, administrative and organisational requirements.
Pay: ₹9,800.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
