About the Role

We are looking for a lawyer with public and regulatory policy experience to join the Legal team. The role sits at the intersection of law, policy, technology and business. The Legal Policy Associate will monitor and analyse policy developments, help formulate Times Internet’s positions on issues affecting its businesses, and translate complex regulatory proposals into clear and actionable advice/guidance for senior management and business teams.

This role is intended for candidates whose professional experience is predominantly in policy. It is not designed as a transition role for candidates whose experience has primarily been in commercial contracting, transactional practice or litigation.

Key Responsibilities

- Monitor and analyse legislative, regulatory, judicial and policy developments in India that may affect Times Internet and its businesses.
- Undertake legal and policy research on issues relating to digital media, online platforms, data protection and privacy,



artificial intelligence, consumer protection, online advertising, fintech and other areas relevant to the digital ecosystem.
- Prepare clear and well-researched consultation responses, position papers, policy submissions, briefing notes, executive summaries and presentations on a variety of issues faced by the businesses.
- Assess the legal, commercial and operational impact of proposed laws and policies, and convert the analysis into practical recommendations/advisory for the businesses.
- Work with legal, product, technology, finance, operations and business teams to obtain inputs and develop coherent, evidence-based policy positions.
- Support engagement with government departments, regulators, industry associations, think tanks and other policy stakeholders, including preparation of meeting briefs and follow-up materials.
- Track policy priorities, consultation deadlines and stakeholder engagements, and maintain an organised repository of submissions, research and institutional positions.
- Help senior leadership anticipate emerging regulatory issues and develop proportionate, forward-looking responses.

Candidate Profile

- An LL.B. degree from a well-regarded institution, supported by an excellent and consistently strong academic record.
- Between 4 and 8 years of post-qualification experience.
- A majority of post-qualification experience in public policy, regulatory policy, policy research or policy advisory work. This is a core eligibility requirement.




- Relevant experience with a technology or digital media company, industry association, policy think tank, government or regulatory institution, public-policy practice, or a law firm team with a substantial policy focus.
- Demonstrable experience in producing high-quality policy research, consultation responses, regulatory submissions or position papers.
- A sound understanding of India’s legislative and regulatory processes and the manner in which government, regulators, industry and civil society participate in policy formation.
- Exceptional written and spoken English, with the ability to explain complex legal and policy issues accurately and simply.
- Solid judgment, intellectual curiosity, attention to detail and the ability to work independently across multiple, time-sensitive policy matters.
- Excellent stakeholder-management skills and the discretion required to handle sensitive or confidential matters.

Preferred Experience

- Experience in one or more of the following areas: technology policy, digital media regulation, online platform governance, data governance, artificial intelligence, competition policy, consumer protection or fintech regulation.
- Prior engagement with relevant ministries, regulators, industry bodies or multi-stakeholder policy forums.
- Not a necessary condition but a preferred one - A postgraduate qualification in law, public policy, public administration, economics or a related discipline.
- A record of published policy research, articles or other substantive public or regulatory policy related writing.
