Role Description

We are looking for an Interior Architect / Design Lead who can take ownership of projects from a design perspective and become the bridge between the client's/design team's vision and Umbrette's execution team.

This is not a conventional drafting or documentation role.

We are looking for someone who can think like a designer, lead like an architect and understand how a design gets built on site.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the design understanding and interpretation of commercial interior projects.
- Review and understand design concepts, drawings, specifications and material intent.
- Drive design coordination between client, external designers, consultants and Umbrette's execution team.
- Ensure that the design intent is maintained throughout execution.
- Identify design gaps, conflicts and constructability issues before they reach site.
- Provide design solutions that are aesthetically appropriate as well as practical and executable.
- Coordinate architectural, interior, MEP and other design requirements.




- Review shop drawings, material details, samples, mock-ups and site execution from a design perspective.
- Establish design standards and detailing practices across projects.
- Work closely with the execution, procurement and project management teams to resolve design-related issues.
- Participate in design discussions with clients and design consultants where required.
- Build a strong internal design knowledge base for recurring commercial projects.
- Help create standard details, specifications and design guidelines that improve speed and consistency.

Qualifications

- Degree in Architecture with relevant commercial interior experience.
- Solid understanding of commercial interiors, particularly retail, offices, experience centres or similar environments.
- Good design sensibility with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and interior drawings independently.
- Strong understanding of materials, finishes, furniture, lighting and construction detailing.
- Ability to understand whether a design is actually buildable and commercially practical.
- Strong coordination and communication skills.
- Ability to take ownership rather than wait for instructions.
- Comfortable working closely with execution teams and visiting sites.
- Ability to identify problems early and provide practical solutions.
