ICU Resident Medical Officer (RMO)
Department: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Designation: Resident Medical Officer (RMO)
Reporting To: Deputy Medical Superintendent / ICU Consultant
Location: Vedansh Superspeciality Hospital & Heart Centre, Dadri
1. Job Purpose
To provide 24×7 medical care and monitoring to critically ill patients in the ICU, assist ICU consultants, manage emergencies, and ensure timely intervention and appropriate escalation of care.
1. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess ICU patients regularly and document clinical findings, vitals, and treatment plans.
- Manage critically ill and unstable patients under the supervision of the ICU Consultant.
- Perform endotracheal intubation when clinically indicated and within the RMO's competency and hospital protocol.
- Manage airway emergencies, including bag-mask ventilation, airway positioning, suctioning, and oxygen therapy.
- Assist with and, where appropriately credentialed, perform procedures such as central venous access, arterial blood sampling/line assistance, urinary catheterization, and other emergency procedures.
- Initiate and assist in CPR and Advanced Life Support (ALS) during cardiac or respiratory emergencies.
- Monitor patients on mechanical ventilation and promptly report changes in ventilator parameters, oxygenation, or clinical condition to the ICU consultant.
- Assess and manage emergencies such as respiratory distress, shock, cardiac arrhythmias, seizures, and altered consciousness.
- Review investigations, including CBC, electrolytes, ABG, ECG, imaging, and other relevant reports, and communicate significant findings to the treating consultant.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and emergency drugs as prescribed.
- Maintain accurate and timely ICU documentation, including progress notes, procedure notes, medication records, and handover notes.
- Participate in daily rounds with ICU consultants and other clinical teams.
- Ensure proper shift-to-shift handover of all critical patients.
- Coordinate with nursing staff, laboratory, radiology, blood bank, and other departments for timely patient care.
- Communicate relevant clinical updates to patients' attendants as directed by the treating consultant.
- Follow hospital policies, infection-control practices, patient-safety protocols, and ICU guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and medical records.
- Immediately escalate any deterioration or life-threatening condition to the ICU consultant/senior doctor.
- Participate in emergency drills, training, audits, quality initiatives, and other hospital activities as required.
1. Emergency & Airway Management Responsibilities
The ICU RMO should be competent or appropriately trained in:
- Endotracheal intubation and airway assessment.
- Bag-mask ventilation and oxygen delivery systems.
- Recognition and management of difficult airway situations.
- Emergency airway preparation and assistance.
- CPR/BLS/ALS.
- Recognition and initial management of respiratory failure and shock.
- Use of emergency drugs and resuscitation equipment.
- Basic ventilator monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Immediate escalation to the ICU consultant/anesthetist when required.
Important: Intubation and other invasive procedures shall be performed only by an RMO who has been appropriately trained and credentialed Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
