Job Title: Mobile Game Designer – Casual Games & Ad Monetization
Location: Bengaluru Employment Type: Full-Time Work
Mode: Work from Office | 5 Days a Week
About the Role
We are looking for a Mobile Game Designer who can move quickly from an idea to a playable game concept and understands that ad placement is an integral part of gameplay design.
The ideal candidate combines solid game design fundamentals with a hands-on understanding of mobile casual gaming. You should be comfortable creating multiple concepts, prototyping rapidly, working closely with product and development teams, and designing ad experiences that complement rather than disrupt gameplay.
Both game design and ad placement experience are essential for this role. One without the other will not be a fit.
Key Responsibilities
● Develop and iterate on mobile game concepts across casual, hyper-casual, puzzle and arcade genres.
● Rapidly prototype and validate game mechanics, gameplay loops and player experiences.
● Work closely with developers, artists and product teams to take concepts from ideation to shipped games.
● Design engaging gameplay experiences with a robust understanding of player motivation and retention.
● Integrate ads and monetization placements into gameplay without compromising the player experience.
● Determine appropriate placement and timing of formats such as rewarded ads, interstitials and other in-game advertising experiences.
● Continuously experiment with game mechanics, progression, difficulty and monetization to improve the overall product.
● Analyse market trends and competing mobile games to identify new concepts and gameplay opportunities.
● Own concepts through their lifecycle and learn from both successful and cancelled projects.
● Work in a fast-paced environment where multiple concepts may be explored and shipped simultaneously.
What We’re Looking For
● 5-8 years of experience in mobile game design.
● Proven experience designing casual, hyper-casual, puzzle or arcade mobile games.
● At least one shipped game in one of the above genres.
● Strong ability to generate and develop multiple game concepts quickly.
● Hands-on experience with Unity or a similar game engine, with the ability to quickly adapt to new tools and technologies.
● Strong understanding of mobile game monetization and ad placements.
● Portfolio demonstrating playable game work, rather than only static artwork or design concepts.
● Strong product ownership and the ability to take an idea from concept to execution.
● Ability to work collaboratively with developers, artists and product teams.
● Comfortable working in a high-speed, experimentation-driven environment.
Good to Have
● Experience working across multiple mobile game concepts simultaneously.
● Experience with rapid prototyping and game experimentation.
● Understanding of mobile game KPIs such as CPI, retention, engagement and monetization.
● Experience with A/B testing or experimentation around gameplay and ad placements.
Note: Experience with CPI and retention metrics is a plus, but not a mandatory requirement, as many game designers may not have direct access to these metrics.
Ideal Profile We are looking for someone who:
● Ships concepts, rather than only creating ideas.
● Can move quickly from concept → prototype → playable game → launch.
● Understands gameplay and monetization as interconnected parts of product design.
● Thinks about where and when ads appear while designing the game itself.
● Has experience working on multiple casual mobile titles rather than spending years on a single title.
● Is comfortable when concepts change, evolve or get cancelled and can move on to the next experiment objectively.
Interview Focus
Candidates may be evaluated on:
- Concept velocity: How many game concepts have you worked on in the last year, and how many actually shipped?
- Ad placement thinking: Tell us about a game you admire. Where are the ads placed, and why do you think those placements work?
- Product ownership: Tell us about a game concept you worked on that was cancelled. What happened, and how did you respond?
- Hands-on design: Walk us through a playable game you have designed and your contribution to it.
- Monetization: How do you balance ad monetization with a good player experience?
Target Backgrounds
We are particularly interested in candidates from high-volume casual mobile game publishers/studios, including:
International: Voodoo, Homa, Kwalee, Rollic, Supersonic, CrazyLabs, Azur Games, TapNation, Playgendary, Tripledot, Dream Games and Peak.
India: Moonfrog, Gamezop, SuperGaming, Nazara Studios, Rolling Panda, Zupee, Games24x7 and Nautilus Mobile.
Candidates from other comparable mobile casual gaming companies are also welcome.
Important Considerations
Candidates primarily coming from mid-core, PC or console gaming may not be suitable due to differences in development pace and product ownership.
Experience in art/design outsourcing agencies should be evaluated carefully, as the role requires direct product and game ownership.
Candidates from real-money gaming backgrounds can be considered, but their experience must demonstrate genuine casual/mobile game design expertise, rather than primarily gambling-oriented product design.
