Meet Flent ??
Renting in India can be a nightmare.
Think about it: visiting countless houses, arguing over rent, losing money to brokers, sticking to 11-month contracts, and spending lakhs of rupees into furnishing. It's a lot — and honestly, we deserve better.
This is where Flent comes in. We're creating a new standard of urban renting for India.
Imagine walking into a home that feels like it’s straight out of a lifestyle magazine - fully furnished, beautifully staged, all you need to bring is your clothes and your vibe. No need to persuade landlords, no dealing with brokers, and no 11-month lock-ins. It’s not just a vision; it’s what we believe the top 1% in India truly deserves.
We started Flent because we were fed up. Trying to find a decent place in the city was a nightmare. But beyond the frustration was a deep-seated passion for home decor and an eye for detail that we couldn't ignore. Numbers revealed that ~$10 Bn is spent annually on urban renting — and that was the tipping point. It convinced us of the potential to craft the future of renting, designed for those who demand more and compromise less.
Flent is backed by top-tier VCs and angels. Since our inception in Jan’24, we’ve launched 300+ homes, went viral on X more than we imagined, and crossed $3 Mn in annual GMV.
Meet Your Team ???
Hey — I’m Shail, co-founder & CEO at Flent ??
One of the most interesting things about building Flent has been seeing how different the two sides of our marketplace are.
Our demand side is sophisticated — young, tech-savvy customers who know exactly what a great consumer experience should feel like.
Supply is the opposite. Indian real estate is fragmented, relationship-driven, and still very early in getting organised. Information is hard to find, decision-making is messy, and the best opportunities rarely come to you.
The people who do really well on this side of the business have two things in common: they’re great at selling, and rejection doesn’t slow them down.
You have to love the hunt. Find people who don't want to be found. Get meetings that aren't easy to get. Hear no repeatedly. Build trust over months. And keep showing up until something moves.
And now, we're taking that same muscle into a much more open-ended problem.
After working with ~12 building owners in Bangalore, we've tasted some early success with institutional supply. We now want to go deeper — working with landowners, developers, investors and wealth managers to create and operate rental assets at a much larger scale.
There isn't really a playbook for this yet. Residential rentals in India are still early as an institutional asset class, and part of what we're trying to do is prove that these assets can be created, operated and invested in at scale.
That messiness is exactly what makes this role exciting to me.
You’ll report directly to me and work closely with Ashish, who leads Supply Growth at Flent.
About The Role
We’re looking for someone to help build the institutional acquisitions engine at Flent.
Your job is to find opportunities, build relationships with the people behind them, underwrite the economics, and take the right ones all the way from a first conversation to a deal.
That could mean helping a landowner turn a building into a high-yield rental asset. Partnering with a developer on an upcoming project. Or starting with an investor’s capital and target return,
and working backwards to find or create the right real estate opportunity.
This isn't a mature function with a fixed investment thesis, predefined deal structures, or a ready-made pipeline. Part of your job is to figure out what the playbook should be. This is more of a -1 to 0 journey first.
What You’ll Broadly Do
- Find the people who control real estate Build relationships across Bangalore’s real-estate ecosystem — landowners, developers, investors, wealth managers, brokers, family offices and anyone else who can help us unlock institutional residential supply. Some opportunities will come inbound. A lot of the interesting ones probably won't.
- Originate opportunities before they become obvious Don't wait for a building to come onto the market. Map neighbourhoods, follow developers, speak to brokers, chase introductions, find owners, and create conversations where Flent can add value.
- Match capital with the right real estate chance Sometimes you'll start with an asset and figure out how to maximise its rental economics. Other times you'll start with an investor's capital and return expectations and work backwards to identify the kind of asset we should create or acquire.
- Underwrite what an asset could become Understand acquisition price, configuration, achievable rents, capex, operating costs, yield, appreciation assumptions, exit scenarios and IRR. Work with the broader Flent team to answer a simple question: if we were operating this asset, what could we turn it into?
- Take relationships all the way to a deal These won't always be quick transactions. Some relationships could take months. Understand what each stakeholder wants, build trust, navigate the economics, coordinate diligence and stay with an opportunity until there's a signed agreement — or a clear reason to walk away.
- Build the institutional acquisitions playbook Treat every conversation and every deal as data. Figure out which asset profiles work, where the best opportunities originate, which partners we should spend time with, why deals die, which structures make sense, and what eventually becomes repeatable.
What your day-to-day will look like
- Mapping landowners, developers, buildings, investors and other potential partners across Bangalore
- Reaching out cold, chasing introductions, meeting brokers, attending industry events and finding unconventional ways to get in front of asset owners
- Spending significant time on-ground looking at buildings, plots, neighbourhoods and potential acquisition opportunities
- Meeting landowners and understanding what they're trying to achieve with their asset
- Meeting investors and understanding their capital, return expectations, investment horizon and risk appetite
- Building underwriting models around rents, acquisition price, capex, yields, cash flows, appreciation and potential IRRs
- Working with our supply, design and operations teams to understand what an asset could become under Flent
- Building proposals and investment cases for potential partners
- Negotiating commercials and working through diligence until a deal closes
- Maintaining a live pipeline of opportunities and being relentless about moving each one forward
- Building relationships that may not result in a deal today, but could become valuable months or years from now
We’re looking for someone who
- Has 3–7 years of experience across real-estate acquisitions, investments, transaction advisory, developer BD, real-estate private equity, family offices, hospitality expansion, managed offices, co-living, or another relevant real-estate role
- Understands real estate beyond just buying and selling — you’re curious about what makes an asset valuable and what can make it more valuable
- Is comfortable with numbers and can think through rental yields, cash flows, capex, appreciation, exit assumptions and IRRs
- Is equally comfortable inside a spreadsheet and across the table from the person who owns the building
- Loves the hunt. Finding an opportunity that nobody sent you is more exciting than working through an inbound pipeline
- Knows how to build long-term relationships. You understand that a ₹10 Cr conversation cannot always be closed in three follow-ups
- Has solid commercial judgment — you can understand what the other side wants without forgetting what needs to work for Flent
- Is comfortable walking away from an opportunity when the economics don't make sense
- Can operate in ambiguity. There isn't a perfectly defined acquisition box waiting for you
- Is resourceful enough to figure out who owns an interesting building, how to reach them, and what would make them take your call
- Can move between strategy and ground execution without treating either as beneath you
- Has enough curiosity to understand real estate, capital, consumer demand and operations together
- Doesn't need follow-ups to close loops
- Wants to build something, not simply inherit a playbook
