ABOUT THE ROLE

FirstView is an embedded systems engineering firm delivering firmware, driver, and software work for U.S. clients across the medical device, aerospace, industrial, and consumer domains. Our Bangalore center works on real, fielded products including regulated medical devices developed under formal design controls (IEC 62304, FDA 21 CFR 820) giving you exposure to the complete product development lifecycle from bring-up through verification and release.

We're looking for an Embedded QA Engineer to carry out verification and validation (V&V;) of embedded Linux and FPGA-based medical devices for our US-based customers. You'll flash and validate devices on real hardware, work with bootloaders, the kernel, root file systems and uboot, Yocto builds, and produce test evidence that meets medical device standards such as IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971 and FDA 21 CFR Part 820. You'll work closely with the customer's teams and our internal QA and development teams to deliver compliant, on-time test results.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Verification & Validation (Medical Devices)

Develop test cases from system and software requirements (SRS), and maintain requirements traceability in redmine, jira , confluence or similar tools.

Execute functional, integration, regression, black-box, smoke and firmware/hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.

Prepare test execution records and V&V; reports as objective evidence for design history files and regulatory submissions.

Support risk analysis and risk-control verification in line with ISO 14971.

Ensure all testing follows IEC 62304, ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR Part 820 requirements and the customer's quality system.

Flashing & Build

Perform flashing procedures on embedded devices using the UUU (Universal Update Utility) tool.

Execute FPGA flashing and programming with Intel Quartus Prime Pro.

Use the uboot, Yocto Project to build, customize and deploy embedded Linux images for testing.

Validation, Debugging & Automation

Conduct manual validation of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB interfaces using standard Linux commands and utilities.

Apply knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, DHCP,



DNS and similar) for system-level validation.

Work with U-Boot, the Linux kernel and the Root File System (RFS) to debug boot, driver and integration issues.

Develop and maintain Python, Bash and shell scripts to automate test workflows, and integrate them with pipelines.

Collaborate with QA and development teams to ensure testing complies with the SRS and approved test plans.

US Customer Support & Deliverables

Act as a QA point of contact for US customers. Join their daily stand-ups, sprint reviews and status calls, with some overlap in US time zones.

Understand customer requirements, clarify acceptance criteria, and turn them into clear test coverage.

Deliver test deliverables on schedule and to customer standards: test plans, test protocols, execution reports, defect reports, traceability matrices, V&V; summary reports and release sign-off reports.

Share clear, regular status updates on testing progress, risks, blockers and release readiness with customer stakeholders.

Reproduce and triage customer-reported issues, and share findings and root-cause analysis quickly.

Coordinate with offshore and onsite teams to keep hand-offs smooth across time zones.

Defect Management & Bug Tracker Maintenance

Log, track and manage defects in Jira or Redmine or similar tools, with clear steps to reproduce, logs and root-cause details.

Work with developers to reproduce, isolate and verify fixes, and keep defect records audit-ready.

Maintain the bug tracker by keeping defect status, severity, priority, ownership and linked requirements accurate and up to date.

Run regular defect triage and bug scrub meetings with development and customer teams, and close, merge or re-open issues as needed.

Remove duplicate and stale entries, and keep workflows, fields, labels and components consistent across projects.

Build and maintain Jira dashboards, filters and defect reports (open/closed trends, ageing, severity breakdown) for internal and US customer stakeholders.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Education: B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, Computer Science.

Experience:



34 years in embedded testing or V&V;, preferably on regulated medical devices, including at least 1 year working directly with international (preferably US) customers.

V&V;: Hands-on experience with requirements traceability, test case development, execution and reporting, defect tracking and risk analysis.

Medical standards: Working knowledge of ISO 13485, IEC 62304, FDA 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 14971.

Flashing tools: Strong hands-on experience with UUU and Quartus Prime Pro.

Embedded Linux: Solid understanding of bootloaders (U-Boot), kernel internals, the Root File System and the uboot, Yocto Project.

Interfaces & networking: Familiarity with networking protocols and embedded communication interfaces (ethernet,Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB).

Programming & scripting: Proficiency in Python and Bash/shell scripting, with working knowledge of C.

Tools: Jira, Confluence, Git, Jenkins, redmine

Bug tracker maintenance: Experience maintaining defect tracking systems, running triage, and creating dashboards and defect metrics.

Troubleshooting: Able to perform manual validation and troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues.

Communication: Good documentation and communication skills for test reporting, with confident spoken and written English for customer calls.

GOOD TO HAVE

Experience with Sitara, NXP i.MX, CortexM3/M4 platforms and Intel/Altera FPGAs.

Working knowledge of UART, SPI, I2C or CAN.

Use of lab tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers , JTAG debuggers and serial consoles.

SOFT SKILLS

Flexible about working in overlap with US time zones when the project needs it.
