Networks is committed to delivering reliable, high-performance solutions that enable seamless connectivity in an increasingly connected world. With a global presence and a focus on innovation, the company fosters a dynamic environment where talented professionals can thrive and contribute to cutting-edge advancements in network technology.
About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our cable access engineering team. In this role, you will work closely with our US-based systems architects, software developers, and hardware engineers to develop and maintain firmware for next-generation Full Duplex (FDX) Cable Amplifiers and smart RF nodes. Your primary focus will be on designing firmware at the intersection of embedded Linux, Broadcom broadband SoC platforms, and dynamic RF control loops.
You will play a crucial role in ensuring the performance, reliability, and scalability of our cable plant telemetry systems, leveraging modern protocols such as gNMI, Protobuf, and MQTT. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative solutions that enhance connectivity worldwide, working in a team-oriented environment that emphasizes technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Qualifications To succeed in this role, candidates should possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, along with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in embedded software or firmware development using modern C and C++. A strong understanding of RF fundamentals, including dynamic signal management and Automatic Gain Control (AGC)
loops in amplified RF transmission paths such as DOCSIS or Cable TV plants, is essential.
Experience working with Broadcom broadband SoCs and SDKs at both the register and hardware abstraction levels is highly preferred. Candidates should have deep expertise in embedded Linux driver development, Linux networking internals, and peripheral bus protocols like I2C, SPI, and UART. Familiarity with implementing telemetry and serialization protocols such as gNMI, Protobuf, JSON, and MQTT for device management and real-time monitoring is also required.
Excellent communication skills in technical English and experience collaborating effectively with US-based or distributed engineering teams are vital for success in this role.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer, your responsibilities will include developing low-level firmware using Broadcom SDKs tailored for broadband and cable access SoCs to initialize, configure, and monitor RF hardware components. You will implement and optimize embedded control loops for RF functions such as AGC, ALC, tilt adjustments, and dynamic power management to ensure optimal RF amplification performance. Managing hardware interfacing and bus control over I2C, SPI, and GPIO interfaces is a key aspect of your role, including controlling on-board peripherals, RF attenuators, equalizers, power amplifiers, and environmental sensors.
You will also be responsible for writing and maintaining custom Linux kernel drivers, character devices, and user-space daemons that interact directly with hardware registers and memory-mapped I/O.
Architecting and implementing modern out-of-band management and telemetry systems using gNMI, Protobuf, JSON, and MQTT will be essential for providing real-time health and RF performance metrics. You will participate actively in joint design reviews, code reviews, and architectural planning sessions with US-based firmware, RF hardware, and systems engineering teams to ensure seamless integration and performance.
Additionally, performing hardware bring-up on custom Broadcom evaluation boards and production hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and RF spectrum analyzers will be part of your responsibilities, ensuring robust validation and troubleshooting of firmware and hardware interactions.
