Position: Child Psychologist – Early Childhood Education

Reporting to: Director / Academic Head

Location: Mangalapuram, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala

Job Purpose The Child Psychologist will be responsible for promoting the psychological, emotional, behavioural, social and developmental well-being of children enrolled in Pre-KG and KG.

The position involves observing children's developmental progress, identifying potential learning or behavioural concerns, providing age-appropriate psychological support, assisting teachers in managing classroom behaviour and working collaboratively with parents to create a positive and supportive learning environment.

The primary objective is to ensure that every child receives appropriate emotional support, developmental encouragement and individual attention during the formative years of early childhood.

Qualifications and Eligibility

Freshers are encouraged to apply

- Bachelor's degree in Psychology, preferably with a specialisation or coursework in Child Psychology, Developmental Psychology or Clinical Psychology.
- Master's degree in Psychology, Child Psychology, Developmental Psychology or a related discipline will be an added advantage.
- Fresh graduates with a strong interest in early childhood development are welcome.
- Candidates with relevant internships, academic projects or practical exposure to preschool environments will be preferred.
- Good communication skills in English and Malayalam.
- A genuine passion for working with children aged 2–6 years.

Key Roles and Responsibilities Child Psychology & Developmental Assessment
- Observe children's cognitive, emotional, social, behavioural and language development through age-appropriate activities, structured observation and play-based interactions.
- Monitor developmental milestones relevant to children in the 2–6 age group.
- Identify early signs of developmental delays, emotional difficulties, behavioural challenges, social interaction difficulties and learning-related concerns.
- Conduct informal developmental observations and maintain individual developmental profiles for children.
- Understand individual differences in children's learning styles, emotional responses, communication abilities and behavioural patterns.
- Assist teachers in identifying children who may require additional attention, differentiated learning strategies or specialist assessment.
- Recommend appropriate interventions and referrals to qualified external specialists whenever necessary.

Emotional and Behavioural Support
- Promote emotional regulation, self-confidence, independence and positive self-expression among young children.




- Provide age-appropriate individual and group support through storytelling, play-based activities, creative expression and guided interaction.
- Help children develop essential emotional skills, including recognising emotions, managing frustration, expressing feelings and resolving minor conflicts.
- Support children experiencing separation anxiety, adjustment difficulties, social withdrawal, excessive aggression, frequent tantrums or other behavioural concerns.
- Develop positive behaviour-support strategies in collaboration with teachers.
- Encourage empathy, sharing, cooperation, patience, respect and healthy peer relationships.
- Create a protected and non-judgmental environment where children feel comfortable expressing their emotions and concerns.

Classroom Observation and Teacher Support
- Conduct periodic classroom observations to understand children's behaviour, peer interactions, attention spans and responses to teaching methods.
- Work closely with Pre-KG and KG teachers to address behavioural and emotional challenges in the classroom.
- Develop practical strategies for positive classroom management, emotional regulation and conflict resolution.
- Assist teachers in managing challenging behaviours through positive reinforcement, redirection and developmentally appropriate approaches.
- Conduct orientation and training sessions for teachers on child psychology, developmental milestones, classroom behaviour and emotional well-being.
- Support the academic team in designing inclusive and child-centred classroom environments.
- Advise teachers on individual learning needs and appropriate classroom adaptations.

Parent Counselling and Family Engagement
- Conduct parent interactions to discuss children's developmental progress, emotional well-being, behavioural patterns and adjustment to school.
- Provide parents with practical guidance on positive parenting, emotional support, healthy routines and age-appropriate expectations.
- Help parents understand common early childhood behaviours, including separation anxiety, temper tantrums, sibling rivalry and social adjustment.
- Conduct individual parent consultations when concerns regarding a child's development or behaviour arise.
- Organise parenting workshops, awareness programmes and interactive sessions on early childhood development.




- Maintain constructive communication between parents, teachers and the school administration while respecting confidentiality.
- Encourage parental involvement in supporting children's emotional, behavioural and social development.

Developmental Activities and Intervention Programmes
- Design and implement age-appropriate activities to promote social, emotional, cognitive and behavioural development.
- Develop play-based programmes that encourage communication, creativity, problem-solving, cooperation and emotional expression.
- Organise activities such as storytelling, role-play, group games, art-based expression, sensory play and guided social interaction.
- Develop structured transition and school-readiness activities for children entering Pre-KG and KG.
- Introduce age-appropriate programmes on emotional literacy, self-awareness, positive relationships and personal boundaries.
- Support children who require additional attention through individualised developmental support plans, in consultation with parents and relevant professionals.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of activities and modify approaches based on children's observed progress.

Inclusion and Early Identification
- Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment for children with diverse developmental, behavioural, emotional and learning needs.
- Assist teachers in adapting classroom activities to accommodate individual differences.
- Identify children who may benefit from further assessment for speech and language, occupational therapy, developmental or other specialist support.
- Coordinate with parents and external professionals, with appropriate consent, to support children requiring additional services.
- Help develop individual support strategies in collaboration with teachers, parents and relevant specialists.
- Promote awareness of neurodiversity, individual learning differences and inclusive early childhood education.

Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain confidential developmental observation records and individual student progress profiles.
- Prepare periodic reports on children's social, emotional, behavioural and developmental progress.
- Document interventions, support strategies, parent consultations and follow-up observations.
- Prepare reports identifying common behavioural and developmental concerns across classrooms, without compromising individual confidentiality.
- Submit periodic updates to the Director or Academic Head on student well-being initiatives and programme outcomes.
- Maintain appropriate records of referrals, parent consent and specialist recommendations.

Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
