The Associate Director provides fund finance leadership for the Nuveen Infrastructure Clean Energy global funds. Assisting with initial fund launch, establishing supplier relationships (fund admin, custodian, valuations, AIFM, tax), and ongoing fund management, accounting, and reporting in support of the investment products. The role directly supports the Nuveen Infrastructure Clean Energy funds
Team Overview The Leveraged Finance team supports credit funds, clean energy funds, and infrastructure funds across the firm's product suite, including term loans, CMBS, notes, loans, and borrowings. The team partners closely with Investments, Legal, Compliance, Tax, and external service providers to ensure accurate fund accounting, robust financial reporting, and strong operational controls across the fund lifecycle — from initial launch through ongoing management.
Position Summary The Associate Director will provide fund finance leadership for the Nuveen Infrastructure Clean Energy global funds. This role is responsible for supporting the initial fund launch, establishing and managing key supplier relationships (fund administrator, custodian, valuation agent, AIFM, tax advisors), and overseeing the ongoing accounting, reporting, and operational management of the funds.
The successful candidate will act as a key point of contact between internal stakeholders and external service providers to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant fund operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the end-to-end fund launch process for new Infrastructure and Clean Energy fund vehicles, including structuring input, onboarding of service providers, and establishment of operational workflows.
- Lead the selection, onboarding, and ongoing management of key suppliers including fund administrators, custodians, valuation agents, AIFM providers, and tax advisors; negotiate service level agreements and monitor performance against agreed metrics.
- Oversee and review fund accounting deliverables prepared by external fund administrators, including NAV calculations, valuations, management fee and carried interest calculations, investor capital account statements, and fund financial statements.
- Manage the funds' quarterly and annual reporting and filing requirements to investors, regulators, and other statutory bodies, including unaudited quarterly reporting and audited annual financial statements.
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, Tax, Client Services, and Portfolio Management teams to support investor onboarding, capital calls/distributions, lender compliance, regulatory filings, and other fund operational matters.
- Support liquidity management activities, including cash management, credit facility compliance, and coordination on borrowing-related fund operations (term loans, notes, CMBS, and other leveraged finance instruments).
- Assist with internal reporting of fund asset and revenue figures, supporting consolidation and internal control requirements.
- Identify and drive process improvement opportunities across fund accounting and reporting workflows to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability as the fund platform grows.
- Maintain awareness of relevant accounting, regulatory,
and reporting developments affecting infrastructure and clean energy fund structures across relevant jurisdictions.
- Assist in resolving investor queries and preparing ad-hoc reporting as required.
- Provide oversight of fund administrator work product, ensuring adherence to agreed timelines, controls, and quality standards.
- Contribute to broader team initiatives, including technology enhancements and process re-engineering projects supporting the fund finance function.
- Collaborate closely with global finance colleagues supporting credit, clean energy, and infrastructure funds to promote consistency in accounting practices and controls across the broader leveraged finance platform.
Skilled Experience/Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant financial experience within fund accounting or fund finance, ideally with exposure to infrastructure, credit, or clean energy fund structures.
- Experience supporting fund launches, including supplier selection and onboarding (fund administrators, custodians, valuation agents, AIFM, tax advisors).
- Strong knowledge of fund accounting principles under US GAAP and/or IFRS; familiarity with investment company accounting standards.
- Experience working with closed-end and/or open-ended fund structures, including capital calls, distributions, management fee calculations, and investor allocations.
- Familiarity with leveraged finance instruments (term loans, CMBS, notes, borrowings) and their accounting/reporting implications is highly desirable.
- Chartered Accountant qualification or advanced degree in Finance/Accounting preferred.
- Experience coordinating with third-party fund administrators and other external service providers.
- Strong analytical and financial skills with attention to detail and a control-oriented mindset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively across internal teams and with external counterparties.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growing fund platform.
- High level of integrity and commitment to acting as a fiduciary at all times.
