About the Role
If you have spent your career so far testing other people’s controls, this is the role where you design and own them — and where you also hold the bank. Virohan is rebuilding its finance function, and the control environment around spend, cash and campus collections is being built from a blank page. You will decide how approvals work, how the framework is tested, how cash is held and moved, and where automation replaces manual checking.
This is a hands-on role in a lean team. But the mandate is the system, not the keystrokes: you set the standard, hold the gate, and remove the manual work rather than absorb it.
What You’ll Own
1. The System of Approvals
- Design and enforce the Delegation of Authority for spend — who approves what, at what value, with what evidence.
- Own payment authorisation discipline: no out-of-cycle payments, no approval bypasses, exceptions documented and approved.
- Write the policies behind it — procurement, travel and expense, campus imprest, vendor onboarding.
2. The Control Framework
- Build and maintain the risk & control matrix for procure-to-pay, treasury and campus cash; keep it live as processes change.
- Run the testing cycle and report results — DoA compliance, segregation of duties, system access reviews, duplicate-payment scans, vendor bank accounts matched against employee accounts.
- Verify controls where the money actually moves: surprise campus cash and imprest checks, fixed asset verification.
- Maintain the exception log, drive remediation, and close statutory and internal audit observations in your area.
- Support the Controller on ICFR documentation and on control evidence during investor and lender diligence.
3. Treasury
- Own the bank interface — account structure, mandates, signatory matrix, user access on banking platforms, and clean banking documentation.
- Run the payment release gate: the final check between an approved invoice and money actually leaving.
- Maintain daily cash visibility and a rolling short-term cash position; flag funding needs before they become urgent.
- Place and track surplus funds within the approved policy; keep deposits, balances and interest income reconciled.
- Own bank reconciliations across collection, payment and campus accounts — nothing unexplained, nothing ageing.
- Support lender and investor reporting with accurate balance, covenant and cash data (the CFO owns the relationships and the strategy).
4. The Payables Standard
- Set the standard the payables team runs to — three-way match discipline, vendor master integrity, bank-detail verification under maker-checker, tax correctness at the point of booking.
- Own the control outcomes at AP close: accrual completeness, GR/IR clearing, ageing and provisions, MSME timelines.
- Decide the exceptions — disputed invoices, held payments, vendor escalations.
5. Automation Work with finance and product to automate invoice capture, approval workflow, payment file generation and bank reconciliation. What can be a system rule should not be a manual check.
What Success Looks Like in 12 Months
1. A documented, tested control framework for spend, treasury and campus cash, where none existed as a framework before.
2. Zero duplicate or erroneous payments; no payment outside the approval matrix.
3. Daily cash position available without anyone building a sheet; all bank accounts reconciled monthly with no ageing items.
4. A quarterly testing cycle running, with findings reported and remediated.
5.
At least one significant manual process replaced by a system control.
What We’re Looking For
- Chartered Accountant with Big 6 experience — mandatory.
- Statutory audit or risk advisory (internal audit, IFC / SOX, process consulting).
- Articleship at a Big 6 firm counts.
- 1–3 years of experience.
- Enough to have run a workstream on your own; early enough that you want ownership rather than a title.
- Control craft.
Process walkthroughs, risk & control matrices, control testing, explicit written findings. You should be able to look at a process and see where it breaks and here you get to design the process, not audit and validate someone else’s.
- Transaction and banking fluency. Procure-to-pay, TDS and GST at transaction level, bank reconciliations and payment rails.
Treasury exposure is a plus, not a precondition, we will back you to learn it.
- Systems -Tally, Zoho or SAP, banking portals, and strong Excel or Google Sheets on large datasets.
- Judgement and spine. The confidence to hold a payment, and the sense to know when a control costs more than it protects.
Why This Role Is Worth Your Next Two Years
You move from reporting on controls to owning them -design, implementation and testing, with real authority.
Treasury on top of controls: you see both how money is approved and how it actually moves, which very few people at your stage do.
Direct line to the Financial Controller, visibility to the CFO, in a function being rebuilt rather than maintained.
A company preparing for its next stage of scale and capital raising — diligence exposure from the inside.
An automation mandate, so the job gets more interesting each quarter rather than more repetitive.
