Position: Staff Research Engineer Frontier AI, RL & Evaluation

Type: Contractor Assignment

Compensation: $25/hr

Location: Remote

Commitment: 40 hours/week, with at least 4 hours overlap during PST business hours

Role Responsibilities

- Conduct research on frontier AI systems, including synthetic and agentic data generation, reinforcement learning, post-training, model understanding, benchmarks, and AI evaluation.
- Design rigorous experiments and build research-grade datasets, prototypes, tooling, and evaluation frameworks.
- Train, test, and evaluate AI/ML models, analyze experimental results, and establish practices for rigor, reproducibility, and data quality.
- Translate research findings into practical improvements for AI systems and collaborate with research, engineering, product, and operations teams.

Requirements





- 7+ years of significant research engineering experience working on machine learning or frontier AI systems, with a Master s or PhD in AI, ML, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
- Strong foundations in machine learning with practical experience designing experiments, training models, evaluating models, or developing AI systems.
- Demonstrated research experience in reinforcement learning, post-training, AI evaluation, benchmarks, synthetic/agentic data generation, model understanding, or AI agents.
- Strong Python programming skills and experience with up-to-date AI/ML frameworks and research tooling.
