Role Overview
We are building and improving a web-based product and are looking for a Junior QA Engineer / Software Tester to help ensure features are reliable, usable, and ready for release. You will test current and existing workflows, document defects clearly, contribute to automation coverage, and work with developers, business analysts, and product managers throughout Agile delivery cycles. This role is suitable for early-career candidates who can demonstrate practical testing ability through professional work, internships, projects, or a strong portfolio.
Must-Have Skills
· Manual web testing: Hands-on understanding of functional, regression, smoke, sanity, UI, integration, and end-to-end testing.
· Automation testing: Practical experience with at least one of Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress, including creating, executing, debugging, and maintaining scripts for common web workflows.
· Test design: Ability to understand requirements and acceptance criteria, identify risks and edge cases, prepare test scenarios/cases, execute tests, and document results.
· API testing: Working experience with Postman for validating requests, responses, status codes, authentication, and error handling.
· Defect management: Ability to report and track bugs in Jira, GitHub, or similar tools with clear reproduction steps, expected vs. actual results, evidence, environment, severity, and priority.
Working Knowledge Expected
· Automation fundamentals: Locators, assertions, waits, browser handling, screenshots, test data, reusable functions, and Page Object Model or a similar design pattern.
· Database basics:
Basic SQL for validating application data.
· Technical foundation: Basic scripting/programming in Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python, along with basic Git knowledge.
· Ways of working: SDLC, STLC, Agile/Scrum, cross-browser testing, responsive testing, and mobile-responsive web applications.
Key Responsibilities
· Test product workflows: Validate new features, bug fixes, and complete business journeys across development, staging, and pre-release environments.
· Prepare and execute tests: Review requirements, identify risks and edge cases, create manual and automated test cases, and perform functional, smoke, sanity, regression, UI, integration, and end-to-end testing.
· Contribute to automation: Build and maintain scripts for stable, high-value workflows such as registration/login, role-based access, forms, dashboards, subscription/payment processes, and API integrations.
· Maintain automation assets: Use reusable components and test data, analyse failed runs, fix script issues, capture evidence, and review execution reports; support CI/CD execution where applicable.
· Report and verify defects: Log clear defects, discuss issues with developers, verify fixes, retest, and run focused regression coverage.
· Test APIs and data: Use Postman for API validation and basic SQL queries for data checks.
· Cover users and devices: Validate Learner, Educator, Recruiter,
School/College Admin, and Platform Admin experiences across supported browsers and responsive layouts.
· Collaborate and document: Participate in requirement reviews, sprint planning, stand-ups, defect discussions, and release testing; maintain test, defect, automation, and release documentation.
· Improve quality: Raise product risks early and contribute to better test coverage, reusable automation, and reliable releases.
Good to Have
· Tools and delivery: API automation exposure; Chrome DevTools; GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or another CI/CD tool; automation execution reports.
· Product experience: Testing SaaS, workforce, learning, HRTech, CRM, marketplace, role-based, or subscription-based products.
· Additional quality areas: Exposure to performance testing with JMeter and basic security testing concepts.
Preferred Qualifications and Attributes
· Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
· Experience: 1-3 years in software testing. Strong internship, project, or portfolio experience may be considered where it demonstrates real manual and automation testing skills.
· Credentials: ISTQB or training/certification in Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, API testing, or automation is an advantage, but not a substitute for hands-on ability.
· Personal qualities: Attention to detail, analytical thinking, problem-solving, clear communication and documentation, willingness to learn, ownership of assigned testing, and commitment to product quality.
