Evaluate patients by reviewing medical history, observing daily tasks, and assessing physical or cognitive needs.
Develop treatment plans with specific activities and exercises to help clients reach personal independence goals.
Recommend adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs, dressing aids, or modified utensils.
Assess settings at homes, schools, or workplaces to suggest helpful accessibility adjustments.
Educate families and caregivers on how to safely accommodate and care for the patient.
Track and document progress, adjusting treatment strategies as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: A master’s or doctoral degree in occupational therapy from an accredited program.
Certification: Passing the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam.
Licensure: Valid state or regional license to practice.
Skills: Solid empathy, active communication, problem-solving abilities, and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
