The Developer Experience (DevEx) Platform Team sits at the heart of Avalara’s engineering ecosystem. Our mission is to eliminate cognitive friction, accelerate cycle time, and empower thousands of internal engineers and external ecosystem partners to build, integrate, and ship production-grade compliance capabilities in minutes.

As a Software Engineer IV on the Developer Experience Platform team, you will serve as a technical anchor driving the next generation of Avalara’s internal and external developer ecosystems. You will treat the developer journey as a premier product—designing declarative "Golden Paths," standardizing self-serve developer platforms, industrializing Agentic Engineering capabilities, and modernizing developer touchpoints.




This role requires a blend of deep systems engineering, platform architecture, developer empathy, and applied AI innovation to move Avalara toward an autonomous, high-velocity engineering organization.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be

• You'll build intelligent AI agents and orchestration layers to automate end-to-end Agentic Engineering workflows.

• You'll develop scalable, cloud-native platforms, distributed systems, APIs, and reusable services for recent content types.

• Architect & Scale Internal & External Developer Platforms.

• Lead complex design discussions, author Architecture Decision Records, and mentor mid-to-senior engineers across globally distributed pods

• You'll build React interfaces with generative AI capabilities for recommendations, updates, conflict resolution, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
