Desired Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone who is more than a CAD designer.
The candidate should be able to look at a manufacturing problem and think:
Process Concept Machine Architecture Fixture 3D Layout Detailed Design Fabrication Assembly Commissioning Production Stabilization
The person should be comfortable working hands-on with designers, fabricators, electrical/PLC engineers, suppliers and customers.
Strong ownership, practical engineering thinking and the ability to independently drive projects are critical for this position.
We are looking for a hands-on Automation / SPM Project Engineer with 56 years of experience in Special Purpose Machine design, automation projects and manufacturing process development.
The ideal candidate should have strong practical exposure to SPM conceptualization, SolidWorks 3D design, fixture development, machine layouts and project management. The person should be capable of understanding a manufacturing process, developing an automation concept and driving the project through design, fabrication, assembly, commissioning and customer acceptance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mechanical Design SolidWorks
Develop detailed 3D machine concepts and layouts using SolidWorks.
Design machine structures, mechanisms, fixtures, tooling, guarding and material-handling systems.
Prepare 3D layouts, assembly drawings and manufacturing drawings.
Select appropriate mechanical components based on application requirements.
Review designs for manufacturability, assembly and maintenance accessibility.
2. SPM & Automation Concept Development
Understand customer requirements and manufacturing processes.
Develop automation concepts for assembly, testing, inspection, handling and other manufacturing applications.
Prepare preliminary concepts, machine architecture and cycle-time considerations.
Understand machine sequence, station requirements, ergonomics, safety and automation feasibility.
Participate in design reviews and technical discussions with customers and vendors.

Fixture & Process Improvement
Design and improve jigs, fixtures, poka-yoke and tooling.
Identify fixture-related quality, cycle-time and ergonomic issues.
Develop improvement concepts to reduce manual intervention and improve productivity.
Understand GD&T; and its application in fixture and machine design.
Work closely with manufacturing/process teams to implement improvements.
4. 3D Layout & Machine Integration
Develop complete 3D machine layouts including machines, operators, conveyors, robots, fixtures and utilities.
Study floor-space requirements and optimize machine footprints.
Prepare layout proposals for current lines and machine installations.
Understand interfaces between mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and automation systems.
5. Project Management
Take ownership of assigned automation projects from concept to commissioning.
Prepare project schedules, action plans and track project milestones.
Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, PLC, fabrication and assembly teams.
Coordinate with suppliers for machining, fabrication and bought-out components.
Monitor project cost, quality, delivery and technical risks.
Support FAT, installation, SAT and customer handover.
6. Site & Customer Support
Participate in machine installation and commissioning at customer locations.
Troubleshoot mechanical and process-related issues during commissioning.
Interact directly with customers to understand technical requirements and close open points.
Support machine ramp-up and production stabilization.
Required Technical Skills
Must Have:
56 years of experience in SPM / Industrial Automation / Machine Building.
Strong hands-on experience in SolidWorks 3D.
Experience in SPM conceptualization and machine design.
Experience in fixture and tooling design/improvement.
Experience in 3D machine and factory/line layout design.
Good understanding of manufacturing processes and automation concepts.
Experience in project execution from design fabrication assembly commissioning.
Good understanding of pneumatic systems, sensors, actuators and basic automation architecture.
Ability to read mechanical drawings and understand GD&T.;
Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Good to Have:
Exposure to PLC/robotics/vision systems.
Experience with Siemens/Omron/Mitsubishi/Allen-Bradley automation.
Experience in automotive manufacturing.
Exposure to cycle-time analysis, OEE and productivity improvement.
Experience with customer-facing project execution.
Knowledge of risk assessment and machine safety.
Experience working with Indian and/or Chinese machine-building suppliers.

Education: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Production or related engineering discipline.
Experience: 56 years in SPM, automation machine building, automotive manufacturing equipment or similar industries.
