Engineering Manager Planisware Platform

Role Summary

Ford is seeking an LL6 Engineering Manager to lead the technical delivery, reliability, and industrialization of the Planisware product portfolio. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, operational ownership, and close partnership with Product, business, architecture, security, operations, and Planisware/vendor teams.

This is not a coordination-only role. The manager is expected to spend approximately 40–60% of their time on meaningful technical work, such as solution design, Planisware configuration and scripting reviews, integration design, performance troubleshooting, upgrade planning, production incident resolution, and engineering standards.

The role owns sustainable engineering outcomes across Planisware configuration and extensions, integrations, services, data flows, and related applications.

Planisware Portfolio Context

Planisware supports enterprise program, portfolio, resource, cycle-plan, and project-management capabilities. The environment may include:

- Planisware configuration, scripting, workflows, and platform extensions
- JavaScript and SQL
- Interfaces and integrations with upstream and downstream enterprise systems
- Integration platforms and data flows, including IICS where applicable
- Google Cloud Platform services where applicable
- Performance tuning, environment management, and platform upgrades
- Automated testing, deployment, observability, security, and production support

Key Responsibilities

1. Hands-on Technical Leadership and Solution Design

- Maintain a 40–60% hands-on technical contribution and lead by example through architecture, configuration, code, design, and production-readiness reviews.
- Own end-to-end solution design for Planisware, including configuration, extensions, scripting, APIs, databases, identity, security, data flows, and integrations.
- Translate business and Product needs into robust technical designs; challenge requirements that introduce unnecessary customization, technical debt, upgrade risk, or poor user outcomes.
- Establish clear decision principles for configure, extend, integrate, or build.
- Ensure customizations and extensions remain upgradeable, testable, secure, and supportable.
- Define reusable integration patterns, data contracts, error-handling approaches, and observability standards.
- Lead technical spikes and personally troubleshoot complex issues involving platform behavior, performance, data integrity, interfaces, and production incidents.

2. Planisware Industrialization and Lifecycle Management

- Own Planisware lifecycle planning, including product roadmaps, release-note review, upgrades, regression impact, environment compatibility, patching,

and vendor support.
- Establish standards for configuration and scripting, source control, promotion across environments, automated validation, auditability, and rollback.
- Govern vendor and service-provider recommendations through technical evaluation and validation; retain internal engineering ownership.
- Reduce manual work and fragile customization through automation, reusable tooling, and platform-native capabilities.
- Improve platform health using measures such as availability, performance, batch completion, interface reliability, escaped defects, change failure rate, MTTA, and MTTR.

3. Engineering Quality, DevSecOps, and Operations

- Build quality into delivery through peer reviews, automated unit, integration, and regression testing, test-data strategy, and risk-based release criteria.
- Own CI/CD and controlled promotion for Planisware configuration, scripts, integrations, and associated services and data flows.
- Ensure secure engineering practices, including least-privilege access, secrets protection, encryption, vulnerability remediation, logging, audit trails, and segregation of duties.
- Own production readiness, on-call effectiveness, runbooks, monitoring, alert quality, incident response, recovery, and blameless post-incident reviews.
- Act as the accountable Product IT LL6 for release and change decisions, including evidence-based approval or rejection of standard, non-standard, and urgent changes. Ensure delegated decision authority during absence.

4. Product and Customer Value

- Partner with Product Managers, Product Owners, architects, and business teams to connect engineering work to measurable user and business outcomes.
- Convert portfolio priorities into executable technical plans; surface dependencies and risks early.
- Make transparent trade-offs among speed, scope, quality, cost, reliability, and maintainability.
- Use product usage, operational telemetry, support trends, and customer feedback to prioritize reliability, usability, and technical-debt work.
- Keep engineers connected to customer needs through demos, design reviews, feedback sessions, and clear acceptance criteria.

5. People Leadership and Engineering Culture

- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of software and platform engineers through regular 1:1s, actionable feedback, clear expectations,

and individual growth plans.
- Hire and onboard engineers with Planisware or comparable enterprise-platform experience, strong software-engineering fundamentals, and learning agility.
- Delegate architectural and operational ownership, build succession depth, address performance gaps promptly and respectfully, and recognize technical excellence.
- Create a psychologically protected culture that encourages healthy technical challenge, diverse perspectives, experimentation, and accountability.
- Promote knowledge sharing through architecture decision records, system diagrams, runbooks, retrospectives, technical talks, pairing, and communities of practice.

6. AI-Enabled Engineering and Continuous Improvement

- Use approved AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly for prototyping, test generation, refactoring, documentation, and analysis while protecting confidential information and validating outputs.
- Automate repetitive platform administration, test execution, deployment checks, environment setup, reconciliation, and operational diagnostics.
- Assess and adopt modern Planisware, DevSecOps, integration, and observability practices that improve engineering productivity and product reliability.

Required Experience and Qualifications

- Significant experience leading engineering delivery for Planisware, including meaningful involvement in configuration, scripting, integrations, upgrades, performance, or production support.
- Strong software-engineering fundamentals, including experience with APIs, SQL, integrations, automated testing, source control, and CI/CD.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound configure-versus-customize decisions and manage the upgradeability and supportability of enterprise COTS platforms.
- Experience leading production operations, incident response, release governance, and continuous reliability improvement.
- Experience coaching and developing engineers, setting technical standards, and leading cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with Product, business stakeholders, architecture, security, operations, vendors, and peer teams.

Preferred Experience

- Planisware implementation, modernization, or upgrade leadership.
- Planisware scripting or configuration experience, including JavaScript and SQL where applicable.
- Experience with enterprise planning, portfolio, project, resource, or cycle-planning processes.
- Experience with integration platforms such as IICS, cloud environments such as GCP, and enterprise interface patterns.
- Experience applying SAFe or similar scaled Agile practices.
- Experience responsibly adopting AI-assisted engineering tools.
