Tool Room Engineer — Moulds, Dies, Jigs and Fixtures

Salary: ₹30,000–₹35,000 per month
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a hands-on Tool Room Engineer to support the design, development, manufacturing and maintenance of moulds, dies, jigs and fixtures across our manufacturing operations.
The candidate should have practical tooling experience, CNC milling programming knowledge and a basic understanding of machining fundamentals. The role will involve working closely with R&D;, production and quality teams to develop reliable tooling for current products and improve existing tooling.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the design and development of moulds and dies for polyurethane products and nylon casting applications.
- Design and develop jigs and fixtures for machining, assembly and inspection.
- Prepare and modify tooling drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
- Prepare and optimise CNC milling/VMC programmes using CAM software, including toolpath simulation and verification before machining.
- Plan machining sequences, cutting tools, workholding arrangements and cutting parameters.
- Prepare manufacturing process sheets, setup instructions and tooling lists.
- Coordinate tooling manufacture with machine operators and external toolmakers, ensuring dimensional accuracy and timely completion.
- Participate in tool trials, inspect trial components and carry out necessary tooling corrections.
- Troubleshoot machining and tooling issues, including dimensional variation, poor surface finish and tool wear.
- Maintain tooling drawings, programme revisions and tool modification records.
- Support repair, maintenance and improvement of existing moulds, dies, jigs and fixtures.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 3–4 years of relevant experience in a tool room or tooling development role.
- Working knowledge of CNC milling/VMC programming and practical exposure to CAD/CAM software.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and understand tolerances, fits, surface finishes and basic GD&T.;
- Understanding of milling, turning, drilling, tapping and grinding operations.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, machining allowances, clamping methods and basic tool materials and heat treatment.
- Ability to use measuring instruments such as vernier callipers, micrometers and dial indicators.
- Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with shop-floor teams.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Exposure to moulds for casting and inj moulding of polymers.
- Experience with jig and fixture design, tooling trials and modifications.
- Basic CNC turning programming knowledge.
