We are hiring: Senior Systems Engineer (Electronics), EO/IR and Thermal Imaging
Location: KINFRA Defence Park, Ottapalam, Palakkad, Kerala
Employment: Full time, on-site
Experience: 6+ years
Compensation: ₹12–18 lakh per annum fixed, based on experience and suitability, plus performance-linked variable pay. Higher compensation may be considered for an exceptional candidate with directly relevant experience.
About Ozak TechnologiesOzak Technologies is a DPIIT-recognised startup and licensed Indian defence company based at KINFRA Defence Park, Palakkad.
We design, integrate, qualify and support thermal imaging and EO/IR systems, including thermal weapon sights and surveillance systems, for defence and security users.
We are a small team. This is a hands-on role with direct responsibility for the product, reporting to the Managing Director.
The roleWe are looking for a hands-on electronics engineer who can own the electronics of our products and take technical ownership of the complete system.
Our products bring together thermal camera cores, embedded processor boards, power electronics, displays and video interfaces inside rugged, battery-powered housings. You will be the person who understands how that electronics works, why a unit fails, and how to make the next build better.
What you will do
- Take technical ownership of the electronics in our thermal imaging and EO/IR products: power, processing, video and display, interfaces and controls.
- Carry out board-level debugging, fault-finding and repair on production and field-returned units, down to component level.
- Bring up and integrate thermal camera cores, processor boards, displays and peripherals into complete, working products.
- Design or modify interface, power and control boards, and take them through schematic, PCB layout, fabrication and assembly with vendors.
- Write, modify and maintain embedded firmware for control, interfaces and power management.
- Build test jigs and test setups,
and write acceptance test procedures, assembly instructions and service procedures.
- Support environmental, reliability and EMI/EMC testing, and fix what fails.
- Investigate field failures, find the root cause and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain BOMs, schematics, revisions and configuration records so every unit can be built and repaired the same way.
- Evaluate electronics from suppliers and partners, and resolve component, quality and obsolescence issues with vendors.
- Prepare systems for customer evaluations, demonstrations and field trials.
What we are looking forMust have
- B.E./B.Tech. or M.E./M.Tech. in Electronics, ECE, EEE, Instrumentation or a related discipline.
- 6+ years of hands-on electronics hardware experience in product development, integration, production or sustainment.
- Strong board-level debugging with oscilloscope, logic analyser, bench supply and multimeter. Comfortable reading schematics and doing SMD rework.
- Experience with microcontroller, SoC or FPGA based boards and common interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, USB and Ethernet.
- Power electronics for battery-powered equipment: DC-DC converters, power budgets, battery charging and protection.
- Practical schematic and PCB design experience in a tool such as Altium, OrCAD or KiCad, and experience working with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors.
- Embedded C for board bring-up, control and test.
Good to have
- Video and display interfaces: analog video, HDMI, MIPI or parallel camera interfaces, microdisplays.
- Embedded Linux on SoM platforms.
- Rugged or defence electronics,
and testing to MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810 or JSS 55555.
- Thermal imaging, camera or EO/IR products. Not mandatory: we will train a strong electronics engineer on the imaging side.
- Lithium battery packs and battery management systems.
- Python or similar for test automation.
- A working understanding of optics and mechanical integration. Deep optics expertise is not required for this role.
Relevant backgrounds include defence electronics, avionics and aerospace, space systems, rugged and industrial electronics, cameras and machine vision, medical devices, test and measurement, and automotive electronics.
The person we are looking forOwnership matters as much as technical depth. We want someone who takes a fault or a product problem, understands it properly, fixes it, and documents it so it stays fixed.
You should be comfortable working in a small team without a large support structure, working directly on hardware, and learning the imaging and system side where you do not already know it.
Compensation and terms• Fixed compensation in the range of ₹12–18 lakh per annum, depending on experience and suitability.
- Higher compensation may be considered for an exceptional candidate with strong, directly relevant experience.
- Performance-linked variable component.
- Long-term incentive opportunities may be considered for high performers, subject to company policy.
This is a full-time, on-site position at Ottapalam, Palakkad. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this role.
