What You’ll Be Doing (position summary):
- As a hands-on Senior QA Engineer, you will lead quality engineering for data platforms aligned to a multi-year product roadmap. Working with Product, Architecture, Data, and business stakeholders, you will translate business goals into scalable test strategies using enterprise standards and up-to-date QA practices.
- You will manage 8–10 QA engineers supporting Data Engineering and establish consistent quality practices across Databricks and PySpark solutions. You will oversee test planning, automation, execution, defect management, and release validation for secure cloud data pipelines, ETL, analytics, data quality, and lineage.
- You will drive QA excellence through automation standards, peer reviews, mentoring, sprint and release discipline, and shift-left testing.
You will allocate resources, remove SDLC bottlenecks, track defects and quality metrics, improve coverage and delivery effectiveness, and support release readiness.
- You will lead QA estimation intake, identify automation opportunities, define and track KPIs, and drive Agile Scrum practices including capacity planning, story pointing, velocity tracking, and ceremonies. POCs may be required to validate tools, frameworks, and test approaches.
- Success in this role requires strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build alignment, facilitate solution discussions, and guide decisions through governance forums.
- This role is one of the early hires for US Technology, Data & AI at CIBC India, helping establish cross-site alignment and a strong engineering culture supporting enterprise and TDAI priorities. Work arrangements, including on-site and remote work, will be discussed during the interview process.

How You’ll Succeed (responsibilities):
- Quality Delivery: Set quality goals, align testing to business strategy, translate priorities into QA roadmaps, define success metrics, manage dependencies, and use risk-based decisions. Leverage GitHub Copilot to accelerate test development.
- QA Strategy and Automation: Define test strategy and automation architecture for secure, scalable data solutions. Improve standards through PySpark testing, CI/CD quality gates, observability, regression suites, data validation, and defect prevention.
- Risk and Compliance Oversight: Promote a risk-aware culture, align with departmental goals, embed privacy and security by design, and partner with Compliance and Audit on governance and reporting.
- Stakeholder Influence and Team Development: Build strong relationships across product, engineering, operations, and U.S.-based teams; influence senior stakeholders; communicate quality risks and trade-offs; manage 8–10 QA engineers; and raise standards through mentoring, reviews, and knowledge sharing.

- Technology management teams to ensure shared accountability for Technology strategy and objectives
- Enterprise Technology colleagues to ensure strategic alignment across projects
- Internal business partners including executive heads of CIBC lines of business, leadership teams, partner teams, and centres of excellence
- External technology vendors and partners providing critical solutions and services

Experience: 10+ years of experience
Must Have Skills:
- 10+ years of QA or quality engineering experience, ideally in financial services or enterprise technology
- 5+ years leading QA teams for data applications, including direct management of 8–10 engineers
- Strong proficiency in Databricks, PySpark, SQL, ETL testing, Azure, and REST API validation
- Deep experience testing ingestion, transformation, pipeline, reporting, and analytics solutions
- Hands-on test automation using Python/PySpark, reusable frameworks, mocks, and data reconciliation
- Ability to define test strategy, coverage, traceability, entry/exit criteria, and release readiness
- Strong CI/CD quality practices, including automated gates, regression suites, and defect controls
- Ability to set quality goals aligned to organizational strategy and solve complex problems
- Experience validating schema, completeness, accuracy, lineage, performance, and security controls
- Experience shaping QA roadmaps and acting as a trusted advisor to engineering and business teams
- Strong cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management across IT and business teams
- Ability to identify risks early, manage defects, report quality metrics, and lead through ambiguity
- Experience with Agile, DevOps, test-data management, and modern engineering practices.
Good to Have:
- Databricks certification or recognized test automation certification is an asset
