Business Flow Navigator
India
Employment for this position is through BFN Technologies Private Limited, the wholly owned India subsidiary of Business Flow Navigator Inc.
We're hiring a Senior AWS Engineer to take ownership of an existing AWS-based application, complete remaining development and deployment work, and support the solution through production readiness. The right candidate is a hands-on engineer who can work across application code, AWS infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, security, documentation, and operational troubleshooting.
The candidate does not need to know the current project on day one, but must have the skills to quickly onboard into an existing codebase and AWS environment — completing and stabilizing the solution, improving its reliability, and helping technical and non-technical teams understand how to build, test, deploy, and operate it.
Role Summary
Role Level Type Location AWS Engineer Senior Full Time Hyderabad, Telangana (Remote)
Key Responsibilities
- Review an existing AWS application codebase and understand the architecture, deployment flow, runtime behavior, and open issues.
- Develop and maintain backend application code, AWS Lambda functions, automation scripts, infrastructure code, and supporting tools.
- Implement production-quality error handling, retries, logging, metrics, alerts, dashboards, and operational diagnostics.
- Maintain and improve AWS CDK infrastructure, deployment scripts, environment configuration, and CI/CD workflows.
- Build and validate automated tests, including unit, integration, smoke tests, and release gate checks.
- Troubleshoot issues across AWS services, application logs, queues, state machines, databases, storage, networking, and IAM permissions.
- Parameterize environment-specific values so the solution deploys consistently to dev, test, QA, UAT, and production.
- Support DevOps, QA, UAT, and business users during deployment, validation, issue triage, and production handoff.
- Write clear technical documentation: deployment runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and user-facing operational instructions.
- Follow security, cost-control, reliability, and maintainability best practices throughout development and delivery.
Required & Preferred Skills Skill Area Expectation AWS engineering Strong hands-on experience with Lambda, Step Functions, S3, DynamoDB, SQS, EventBridge, CloudWatch, SNS, IAM, KMS, ECR, and related services. Infrastructure as code Experience building and maintaining AWS CDK (or equivalent) for repeatable multi-environment deployment.
Backend development Strong Python development skills: API integration, structured error handling, tests, packaging, production debugging. CI/CD GitHub Actions or similar: linting, tests, Docker image builds, deployment gates, release validation.
Containers
Ability to build, troubleshoot, and deploy Docker-based workloads and Lambda container images.
Observability
Ability to design helpful logs, metrics, alarms, and dashboards for production support.
Security
Least-privilege IAM, encryption, secrets handling, access control, and audit-friendly deployment practices.
Testing
Strong testing mindset with pytest or similar: integration testing, smoke testing, regression prevention.
Documentation
Ability to write practical runbooks, setup instructions, and recovery procedures other teams can follow.
Ownership
Ability to independently investigate issues, propose fixes, implement safely, verify, and communicate status.
Preferred Skills
- Amazon Bedrock, knowledge bases, vector search, OpenSearch Serverless, embeddings, or AI-assisted applications
- Document processing, ingestion pipelines, file validation, metadata handling, or data governance workflows
- Client-facing AWS production readiness, Well-Architected reviews, security reviews, or FTR-style remediation
- React, TypeScript, or lightweight frontend troubleshooting for internal operational tools
- AWS certification (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, Security Specialty, ML Specialty) or equivalent practical experience
Expected Deliverables & Minimum Qualifications Expected Deliverables
- A reliable, tested, deployable AWS application that can be promoted through agreed environments
- Clean code changes with meaningful tests and no unnecessary regressions
- Repeatable deployment and teardown procedures with documented prerequisites and parameters
- Clear operational monitoring, alerting, troubleshooting, and recovery guidance
- Updated technical documentation for DevOps, QA, UAT, business users, and production support
- A concise status report of completed work, known risks, pending decisions, and recommended next steps
Minimum Qualifications
- Five or more years of software engineering or cloud engineering experience
- Three or more years of hands-on AWS delivery experience
- Strong Python development experience in production or client delivery environments
- Demonstrated experience debugging distributed cloud applications
- Demonstrated ability to work from an existing repository and improve it without rewriting unnecessarily
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Interview Focus & Evaluation Criteria Topic What We Ask Robust Signal AWS troubleshooting Describe a difficult production issue you debugged across multiple AWS services. Explains logs, metrics, IAM, networking, queues, and application behavior clearly. Code ownership How do you onboard into an existing codebase and make changes safely?
Reads first, runs tests, makes scoped changes, verifies behavior, documents findings. CI/CD How would you design release gates for a production AWS application? Mentions lint, tests, build validation, synth, smoke tests, rollback, and approvals.
Security
How do you reduce overly broad IAM permissions? Understands least privilege, service constraints, resource scoping, documented exceptions.
Operations
What makes an alarm useful instead of noisy? Connects alarms to symptoms, impact, owner action, runbook, and escalation.
Documentation
How do you write documentation QA or DevOps can actually use? Step-by-step instructions, verification, failure recovery, and examples.
Evaluation Criteria
- Must be hands-on in code and AWS, not only advisory
- Must debug production-style issues methodically
- Must understand deployment automation and environment configuration
- Must value tests, observability, documentation, and operator experience
- Must communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Should be comfortable learning project-specific RAG and ingestion details during onboarding
