Role Description
This is a full-time, in office Power Electronics Engineer role based in Yamunanagar. The Power Electronics Engineer will be responsible for end-to-end technical handling of Li-ion battery chargers: incoming inspection, electrical/functional testing, PCB-level fault diagnosis and repair, assembly from semi-finished parts/PCBAs, calibration, validation and final EOL release.
Overview
- Department- R&D; / NPD / Testing & Validation
- Experience- 3-5 years minimum
- Qualification- B. Tech / B.Tech – Electrical / Electronics / Power Electronics / ECE/Electrical& Electronics
- Industry- Li-ion Battery / EV / ESS / Power Electronics/ (CHARGERS, INVERTERS
- Role Type- Product Validation & Testing, reverse engineering, RCA(Root Casuse Analysics)
- Reporting- NPD / R&D;
- Product Scope- IP20 & IP67 Li-ion/LFP chargers, CAN and Non-CAN
- Preferred Exposure- SMPS / EV chargers / UPS / industrial power supplies
Key Responsibilities
- Test chargers for AC input range/frequency, no-load and full-load operation,
CC/CV accuracy and transition, output ripple, efficiency, power factor, THD, inrush current, thermal performance and burn-in.
- Validate protections including OVP, OCP, short circuit, over-temperature, reverse polarity/backfeed and battery-disconnect behavior.
- Troubleshoot failed chargers to PCB/component level using schematic/block diagrams and electrical measurements.
- Diagnose and replace components such as fuse/MOV/NTC, bridge rectifier, PFC MOSFET/diode/controller, DC-link capacitors, LLC MOSFET/controller, transformer, SR MOSFETs, auxiliary SMPS, optocoupler, sensing circuits, relay, fan and connectors.
- Repair, calibrate and fully revalidate chargers before release.
- Assemble finished chargers from semi-finished PCBA, magnetics, heatsinks, thermal pads, harnesses, fan, connectors, enclosure and communication/control parts.
- For IP67 chargers, ensure correct gasket/O-ring, gland, vent, connector sealing and fastener torque; support IP6X/IPX7 validation.
- Maintain charger test reports, repair history, RCA/8D, burn-in records, EOL records and HW/SW traceability.
Technical Knowledge Requirements
1. Power Electronics - AC-DC rectification, EMI/surge protection, active PFC, DC link, flyback, half/full bridge, LLC resonant converter, HF transformer, synchronous rectification, MOSFET gate drive and isolated feedback.
2. Charging- LFP/Li-ion CC-CV charging, charge termination, voltage/current sensing, BMS protection coordination,
SOC basics and cell/pack OVP/UVP.
3. CAN / Non-CAN- CAN-H/CAN-L, termination, bitrate, CAN IDs/messages, BMS-charger handshake and fault/timeout logic; understanding of fixed CC-CV Non-CAN chargers.
4. IP & Safety- IP20/IP67 fundamentals, IP2X, IP6X/IPX7, insulation, creepage/clearance, Hi-pot, insulation resistance, earth bond and leakage-current concepts.
5. Standards- Working familiarity with IEC 60335-2-29, IEC 60529 and relevant IEC 61000 EMC requirements.
Mandatory Hands- On Skills
- PCB troubleshooting, continuity tracing, soldering/desoldering and SMD/power-component replacement.
- Safe use of multimeter, oscilloscope, differential/current probes, electronic load, battery simulator and power analyzer.
- Operation of Hi-pot, insulation resistance, ground-bond and leakage-current testers.
- Reading circuit schematics and identifying PFC, LLC/DC-DC, auxiliary supply, feedback and protection sections.
- Wiring/harness preparation, connector crimping, TIM/thermal-pad installation and charger assembly/disassembly.
- MS Excel for test data, calculations, plots and technical reports.
Expected End-to-End Capability
Failed charger: Failure reproduction → diagnosis → RCA → component replacement → safe power-up → calibration → CC/CV & protection validation → burn-in → EOL release.
Semi-finished charger: PCBA + magnetics + heatsink + harness + enclosure → assembly → firmware/configuration → calibration → functional/safety testing → finished-good release.
Preferred Experience
3-5 years of practical experience in EV/Li-ion chargers, SMPS, industrial power supplies, UPS/inverters, telecom rectifiers or similar power-electronics products. Strong hands-on troubleshooting ability may be considered more important than qualification level.
