Role Description The PhD Candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research within DLR’s scientific framework, contributing to publications, conference presentations, and project reports. Day-to-day activities include designing experiments or simulations, analyzing data, reviewing scientific literature, and documenting research results in close coordination with supervisors and research teams. The role also involves supporting project planning, participating in team meetings, and contributing to interdisciplinary collaborations within DLR and with external partners.
The PhD Candidate is expected to engage in academic training, develop methodological expertise, and help disseminate findings to the scientific community and relevant stakeholders. This is a full-time, on-site role located in Mumbai.
Qualifications
- Completed or near-completed master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as aerospace engineering, physics, computer science, mechanical engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline.
- Strong research aptitude, including ability to formulate scientific questions, design studies or experiments, and analyze complex data using appropriate quantitative or qualitative methods.
- Proficiency in technical writing and communication, with the ability to prepare scientific publications, research reports, and presentations in clear, structured English.
- Experience with relevant tools and methodologies, such as programming or simulation environments, data analysis software, laboratory or fieldwork techniques, and standard research workflows in the candidate’s discipline.
- Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams, manage time and priorities effectively, and take initiative in advancing project goals.
- Willingness to be based on-site in Mumbai and to engage in international collaboration and scientific exchange as part of DLR’s research network.
- Interest in DLR’s mission areas (e.g., aeronautics, space, energy, transport, climate, or security) and motivation to contribute to sustainable and societal-relevant technological solutions.
