Role Purpose The Head — University Medical Centre provides overall leadership and operational oversight of the University Medical Centre, ensuring timely, accessible, coordinated and student-focused healthcare services. The role is directly accountable to the Executive Director — Student Affairs & Administration and is responsible for leading, coordinating and monitoring the complete Medical Centre team, including medical, nursing, administrative and support personnel.
Key Responsibilities
1. Medical Centre Leadership & Team Management
Provide overall leadership and direction for the University Medical Centre.
Plan and monitor manpower deployment, duty rosters, shifts and service coverage.
Monitor attendance, discipline, performance, accountability and service delivery of the team.
Conduct periodic team reviews and ensure timely resolution of operational issues.
Ensure adequate medical and nursing coverage during regular operations, nights, weekends and major university events, as required.
2. Student Healthcare & Immediate Assistance
Ensure prompt medical assistance to students requiring routine, urgent or emergency care.
Establish an effective mechanism for handling accidents, injuries, illness and other health-related incidents on campus.
Ensure timely assessment, first response, stabilization, referral and transportation of students requiring external treatment.
Monitor referred cases and ensure appropriate follow-up until closure.
Coordinate medical support during examinations, sports activities, major events and other high-footfall activities.
3. Hospital & Healthcare Partner Coordination
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with tie-up hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres, ambulance providers and other healthcare service providers.
Coordinate emergency admissions, specialist consultations, investigations, procedures and referrals.
Review existing healthcare tie-ups and recommend additional partnerships where required.
Monitor the responsiveness and service quality of external healthcare partners.
Coordinate institutional requirements relating to referrals, documentation, billing and other healthcare processes, wherever applicable.
4. Medical Centre Operations
Ensure smooth day-to-day functioning of the Medical Centre.
Develop and implement SOPs for routine services, emergencies, referrals, ambulance movement and critical incidents.
Monitor availability of essential medicines, medical equipment, emergency supplies and consumables.
Ensure readiness and proper maintenance of emergency equipment.
Monitor cleanliness, hygiene, infection-control practices and overall standards within the Medical Centre.
Ensure appropriate maintenance and confidentiality of medical records.
Establish a robust campus medical emergency response mechanism.
Ensure immediate intervention and escalation during responsible medical emergencies.
Coordinate with ambulance services, hospitals, Security, Hostel Administration and other concerneddepartments.
Develop emergency response protocols for accidents, serious illness, mass-casualty situations, outbreaks and other health emergencies.
Participate in university-level emergency and crisis-management planning involving medical services.
6. Preventive Healthcare & Campus Health
Coordinate health awareness programmes, medical camps, screening programmes and vaccination drives.
Monitor campus-level health concerns and recurring health issues requiring institutional intervention.
Coordinate with relevant departments on sanitation, hygiene, vector control, food safety and other campus health matters.
Promote preventive and wellness-oriented healthcare initiatives for students.
7. Reporting, Monitoring &Compliance;
Submit regular operational and performance reports to the Executive Director — DSA&A.;
Maintain records of medical cases, emergencies, referrals, hospital admissions and significant healthcare interventions.
Analyse healthcare data to identify trends, recurring concerns and areas requiring corrective action.
Ensure appropriate documentation for institutional reviews, audits and inspections.
Immediately escalate critical incidents and significant medical concerns to the appropriate university authority.
8. Institutional Coordination
Work closely with DSA&A; and all relevant university departments to ensure integrated student support.
Coordinate with Hostel Administration, Security, Sports, Transport, Student Welfare and other units as required.
Provide medical inputs for university events, emergency planning and student welfare initiatives.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
Valid registration with the applicable Medical Council / National Medical Commission framework.
Postgraduate qualification in a relevant medical discipline, Hospital Administration, Healthcare Management or Public Health would be desirable.
Experience
Relevant experience in hospital administration, institutional healthcare, campus healthcare, emergency services or medical centre management.
Demonstrated experience in managing multidisciplinary medical and nursing teams.
Experience in coordinating with hospitals, clinics and healthcare service providers would be desirable.
