Role purposeThis role looks after transformer and rectifier, designing the product, getting it built to standard, and selling. The engineer will design HT transformers and rectifier units up to 2,000 kVA / 11 kV, run production through an outsourced MSME facility, and grow orders from industry.

Key responsibilitiesDesign and engineering

- Design HT distribution and rectifier transformers up to 2,000 kVA / 11 kV, including core, winding, insulation, cooling and enclosure, in oil-immersed and dry-type (cast-resin) construction.
- Engineer units for marine and naval duty: compact footprint, shock and vibration resistance, humidity and salt-mist protection, as per naval and shipyard specifications.
- Design matching control and monitoring panels, starters and soft starters where supplied with transformers or DG sets.
- Prepare GA drawings, rating plates, bills of materials, QAPs and technical datasheets for tenders and customer approvals.
- Ensure compliance with IS 1180, IS 2026, IS 11171, IEC 61378 (rectifier transformers), BEE requirements, and customer technical specifications.

Production and quality
- Manage production at the outsourced MSME factory: issue drawings, control process quality, and track output and delivery.
- Plan the build sequence (core, winding, drying, assembly, tanking or casting, finishing) and material requirements for each order.
- Conduct and witness routine tests and coordinate type tests at CPRI or NABL labs.
- Manage stage and final inspections by naval QA, shipyard QA, RDSO or third-party inspectors,



and keep test certificates and inspection records audit-ready.
- Coordinate with principal manufacturers and vendors for bought-out transformers, CRGO, conductors, oil, bushings and spares.
- Drive cost, yield and on-time delivery, and evaluate shifting production in-house at MEIL as volumes grow.

Sales and business development
- Keep vendor registrations, vendor codes and GeM listing active and renewed; add new registrations
- Track and bid on tenders on GeM, IREPS, shipyard and defence e-procurement portals; prepare techno-commercial offers and cost sheets.
- Negotiate prices, delivery and payment terms; close orders and follow up on bills and collections with government buyers.
- Maintain the sales pipeline and customer records in the CRM, and report market and competitor intelligence.

After-sales and team leadership
- Work alongside the outgoing director during a six-month handover to take over customer relationships, principal tie-ups and order history.
- Handle complaints, warranty claims, field failures and root-cause analysis, including onboard ship and depot visits.
- Support installation, commissioning, repair and spares supply for transformers, panels and DG sets.
- Lead and train design, production and sales staff, and enforce safety and quality practices.

Qualifications and experience
- B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering; M.Tech in Power Systems or Electrical Machines is a plus.
- 5–7 years with a transformer, rectifier or switchgear manufacturer, with hands-on exposure to design, production and sales (at least two of the three in depth).
- Familiarity with DG sets and control panels is an advantage.
