- Overall Role of a Design EngineerA Design Engineer in an underground road tunnel project is responsible for developing secure, economical, and constructible engineering solutions for tunnel excavation, support systems, permanent linings, and associated civil works, based on geological conditions, load cases, design codes, and construction methodology.They translate geotechnical data and functional requirements into calculations, design criteria, and executable drawings, while supporting the construction team with technical decisions during tunnelling.
- Key Responsibilities (Phase?wise)A. Feasibility & Concept Design Stage
- Input Review & Technical AssessmentReview:DPRGeological & geotechnical investigation reportsBore logs, seismic refraction dataAssess:Rock mass classification (RMR/Q/GSI)Groundwater conditionsOverburden and fault zones
