What You’ll Be Doing (position summary):

- As a hands-on Data Engineer, you will build ETL, analytics, and data consumption capabilities aligned to a multi-year product roadmap. Working with Product, Architecture, Data, and business partners, you will translate requirements into scalable solutions using Databricks, PySpark, enterprise standards, and contemporary engineering practices.
- You will design, develop, test, and support secure cloud-based data solutions across ingestion, transformation, data quality, lineage, and consumption. You will create reliable Databricks pipelines, write efficient PySpark code, and apply sound data-modeling practices to solve business problems.
- You will contribute to engineering excellence through clean code, peer reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, documentation, observability,



and disciplined sprint delivery. You will troubleshoot pipeline failures, tune Spark workloads, improve data reliability, and support releases with guidance from senior engineers.
- You will estimate assigned work, identify performance and cost improvements, participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, and build POCs to validate technical approaches. You will collaborate on story refinement, implementation planning, production support, and continuous improvement.
- Success in this role requires clear communication, curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with engineers, analysts, product partners, and business stakeholders while explaining technical decisions and trade-offs.
- This role supports US Technology, Data & AI at CIBC India, contributing to cross-site delivery and a strong engineering culture aligned with enterprise and TDAI priorities. Work arrangements, including on-site and remote work, will be discussed during the interview process.

How You’ll Succeed (responsibilities):

- Data Engineering Delivery: Develop and maintain batch and streaming pipelines in Databricks using PySpark and SQL. Translate stories into tested code, follow engineering standards, document solutions, and use GitHub Copilot responsibly to improve development productivity.
- Technical Design and Quality: Implement secure, scalable, and resilient data solutions. Apply Delta Lake patterns, medallion architecture, automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and Spark performance tuning while reducing defects and technical debt.
- Risk and Compliance: Follow privacy, security, data-governance, and audit requirements; protect sensitive data; maintain lineage and controls; and promptly identify and escalate delivery or production risks.
- Collaboration and Growth: Work with product, architecture, analysts, operations, and U.S.-based teams; communicate status and trade-offs clearly; participate in peer reviews; share knowledge; and continuously build expertise in Databricks, PySpark, and cloud data engineering.

Experience: 5+ years of related experience

Must Have Skills:

- 5+ years of data engineering or software development experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Hands-on experience building data pipelines with Databricks, PySpark, and SQL
- Strong Python fundamentals and working knowledge of Spark Data Frames, transformations, joins, window functions, and UDFs
- Experience with Delta Lake, medallion architecture, schema evolution, partitioning, and data-quality checks
- Ability to ingest structured and semi-structured data from files, databases, APIs, and cloud storage
- Understanding of Spark performance tuning, including caching, shuffle reduction, partition sizing, and query-plan analysis
- Experience writing unit tests, debugging failures, monitoring jobs, and supporting production pipelines
- Working knowledge of Git, pull requests, CI/CD, environment configuration, secrets, and release practices
- Knowledge of Azure data services, cloud storage, Azure SQL, and REST APIs
- Ability to understand requirements, estimate work, document designs, and deliver independently with appropriate guidance
- Clear written and verbal communication with technical and business partners
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, ownership, and willingness to learn
- Exposure to Agile delivery and financial-services data is preferred

Good to Have:

- Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate or Microsoft Azure data certification is an asset
